Just thought I would post a picture of the yellow B'stard hard at work in Germany. Mother in law wanted a load of stones that I lifted up from a dirve way that I replaced. So I loaded them up and drove 250 Miles to the north of Bavaria ( slowly) and returned with a load of wood - I live in Munich.
I have had a lot of respect for my motor for years as it has never let me down but this was the peak. about 3.8 tonnes all up with a 50 year old engine dug out of a scrapper that sat for 20 years on a field earns respect.
I don't know why haulage firms waste loads of cash on expensive, complicated motors. Just buy a fleet of old IIAs, a decent trailer and shares in an oil company.

My LAndy was the best 400 quid I've spent 15 years ago - just goes to show that providing you know one end of a spanner from another, don't mind going deaf or getting piles and are prepared for a more relexed pace, there is no need for spending thousands on a new machine every 3 years.
Everyone should own one of these devices.

There I've said it.

All you need to do now is get rid of that horrible truck cab and stick a full canvas tilt on it.I put up with the truck cab layout for about 15yrs on my IIA and finally swopped it last year - should have done it at the beginning.;)

Good idea eigitinavee,
Actually, the full canvas goes on for the summer I got a spanking new one last year. Truck cab for the winter -they get pretty heavy here in Munich. It was origionally a safari ( which i still have but don't use too much).
So its an all in one.
There good motors though ain't they!

Cheers

They certainly are,I recently bought a 72 SIII SWB to build with a new galvanised chassis,200TDI etc.
I already have a brand new front axle and tilt.I want to make it up to last for the rest of my driving years.(And I'm not THAT old !) Looking at what to do with the bulkhead,at the moment it looks like repairing it and galvanising. Most of the rest of it is hanging around already, the engine is out of a RR Classic which I used to own,its done 242,000miles and runs a treat.
The main problem is going to be time to build it......:(
