Hi,
I have moved my lighter socket behind the dash and run a switched multi adaptor into the middle box..
So to fill the hole where the lighter socket went i bought a push button start..It's been sat there looking pretty but doing naff all so im attempting to wire it in..I have earthed the black...The intructions seem confusing and go as follows..

The green wire should be connected to terminal 15(ign) behind the switch, with another one connecting terminal 50 behind the ignition switch as well (The power from ign to the starter motor)

The red wire should be connected to to terminal 15(The power path that passes through ign)

Can someone explain this to me?
I'm no genius in this subject!!

Beats me.

Sounds like you have a switch to control a relay which, in turn, should control whatever the starter switch (key) would normally control (ie the spider unit). So you've replaced one component (with the button) and added another (the relay). Have I got that right?

The reference to mental bodywork is a trifle worrying too.

I'd have thought that all it needs to do is send 12 ignition-switched volts down the wire that comes off the key switch, making sure to have disconnected and isolated the latter. The instruction to not press it when the engine's running suggests it has no 2nd start protection.

After another inspection it appears it does have 4 wires...2blue 1red and a black that i have earthed.
So i need to connect the two blues and the red up...To some wires...

Ok it would be better if there was a schematic diagram, but you will need your multimeter to see how things work anyway.
I may be wrong but the pushing the button pulls in the relay to provide a momentary 12v path to your starter solenoid when u have the ignition switch over in position 2.

The button has three wires one to earth, the other to the relay coil, the third wire will be a supply for the button illumination... Maybe.... all the time or just when it's pressed which depends on the type of switch.

The relay will be wired normally, 12v to one side of the coil and to earth via the push button on the other side of the coil, the relay contacts providing the switched 12v path to the starter solenoid.

The above is how I would make up this kit from scratch I would also include a fuse in the relay supply to isolate from the vehicles supply but that's it.

When I have time I might make some thing up on the bench as I have a switch that is duel colour, background lighting but changes colour when pressed :cool:

Why fit a starter button?
Surly you have to still put key in ignition to take steering lock off and turn ignition on , why go through the hassle for a gimmick button when can just turn the key once more?
Or am I missing something?
