As the name may suggest, aside from the snorkel, on my series 3 petrol, would all I need to do to waterproof the ignition is to just seal the distributor say with either some silicon round the cap or similar or is there more to it?

Cheers guys.

yu cant seal the disti cap - as it has to "breath" - otherwise condensation forms inside which dont do the electrics any good,. Dont forget the coil either.

you'll never be able to waterproof it, you can try sealing things but you'll just end up with an unreliable engine that you'l be forever trying to dry out to get it started - remove the fan will help

or fit a diesel engine

Apparently a waterproof distributor from an Austin Champ will fit with a few alterations.

Many people use a rubber glove on the distrubutor when they know they are going through water! Mount the ignition module, coil etc and run all electrics as high as you can.

And yup, remove the standard fan, fit an electric one and have a manual cut-off switch. Will help a bit
