Well I had some fun yesterday..... the fob wouldn't unlock the car so I used the code turning locking and unlocking the drivers door lock...hurray success... and the manual says the alarm/imobiliser is now off till the fobs used... bollocks is it... got to Tarr steps, parked the car and locked the car using the key...dash light flashes and the darn thing alarms its self...after a walk and some lunch go back to the car and is was a right barstid to turm the alarm off..took over 40 mins !!!!

Now the question is how can I tell if its the fob thats gone and not the alarm playing up..its a 2 button fob so I know I'll need to key any new key re-synched at the dealer ( unless anyone know's a chearer option in north devon )... can you test the fob at all ??

The first thing I would do is buy a new battery, then take the plastic cover off the fob unit and operate the fob directly from the circuit board buttons.

Very common for the fob case plastic buttons to wear out so they don't operate the circuit board switches. New fob cases are about a £5 from Ebay.

Is the battery cell ok? YES then suspect the fob. You can test the fob if you have the equipment to do so but there are companies on the www that will test/repair/referb your fob for you, Remote Key is one.
A brand new fob will have to be programmed to match the comms data of the ecu, re-synch is what you do when you have replace the battery cell to an already matched fob/alarm ecu.
