my 2000 4.6l vouge auto
is it possible to check the operation of the idle control valve(icv)?
my issue is this sometimes it will idle perfectly at 750 rpm(in or out of gear)
then you might drive for half hour,come to a halt to find it idling at 1000 rpm.it appears to be random, ie sometimes it will idle normally. i have tried the usual suspects by spraying easystart all over the place but to no avail.new maf has been fitted and tested to be perfect(@750 rpm 22kg @3000 rpm 90 kg when idling at 1000 rpm 26kg)

Pardon my course-ness but why the feck are you spraying Easystart all over the place - that stuff is lethal, starts campfires very well though !!!!!
 
It might be the throttle position sensor tps ? check connector or remove and clean the throttle body as might be sticking as it can get gummed up.
The idle valve icv is not something you can strip down, if it suddenly idles at 1000rpm pop out of the car and give it a bash (not to hard) and see if the revs drop.

Someone has told him to do that to check for induction air leaks. If engine speeds up there is a leak, is the theory behind it. It is also very good at finding plug leads that are tracking. Would make a nice big bang. But at least you would know the plug lead that just melted along with the rest of the car was duff. :D:D:D
 
to check for air leaks, a leak will draw it in and speed up the engine.
