About a mile from home yesterday, temperature shot into the red

Got home, let her cool down, the opened expansion take to find it, totally empty:doh::doh:

Note to self. Check the effing water level more than once every six months:doh:

Hoping just lack of maintainance. Keeping an eye on it.

How would a faulty pump reveal itself? apart from leaking and temp rise?

Usually leak water but only while moving so you wouldn't see it as a puddle on the floor. Usually leaks from the gasket around the pump.

Did about 100 miles this moning and no problem so far. So, fingers crossed its just a maint. issue.

Sh1t and balls.

Following my own advice to check the water more regularly, I just had to put another 1 1/2 litres in the tank. Hmmmmmm.

Hope you looked to see if there`s any oil in the engine too while the bonnet was up? And no goo around the oil filler cap....

The second top up might be that the air got out from the pockets/heater/depending on engine (too lazy to look on OP about page...)

Cheers philvy and Storm99, another 200 miles and fluid level unchanged. Looks like it was an 'engine burp' (although I did top up at thermostat filler as well as expansion tank).

So, about five litres of fresh water. Should I bung some antifreez in the tank do you think??
