Hi all, another oil leak thread I'm afraid.

I noticed this one adter a 60 mile drive last week.

I don't know if this is engine oil or gearbox oil or transfer box oil, I am OK on the tools but not that conversant with whats what under there, can anyone help please?

I would like to know what the likely cause is, how serious it could be, and if there are any cheap fixes to get me through a tight financial few months?

Many thanks

its not easy to see but i would think either sump rear or main brg cap which is fixed with new rear gasket between block and flywheel housing, but if thats all it looks like thats nowt compared to most and youd be lucky to make a lr much better seriously

thanks James, would you say its engine oil then?

I guess my main concern is I can keep an eye on engine oil easily via the dipstick, but others are more likely to catch me out as not so easy to monitor.

id love for mine to look like that! i wouldnt worry.. its hardly anything. you might need to top it up in 2 years or so....

Dont know if it will be much use to you but I have that leak and i know a mate has the same one too and he has spent about £2000 in solutions to this leak to no effect on correcting it, so personally i would stick with it, it aint as bad a leak as most of us on here have seen, dont worry about it

I'd be taking the wading plug out until your going wading or oil build up will contaminate clutch

I thought they could be left in as long as they are checked. Manual says check every 6000 miles.

If it is leaking oil it would be better removed so any oil can't build up- pays your money and takes your chance.
