Any novel ways to carry the spare rather than have it rolling around the boot space? The LPG container is in the well in the boot & it's a nuisance!

Should have mentioned it's a P38 ; has possibilities but is there an actual accessory that does the job?

Hi Wills ,yes mine is a diesel p38 & I think it is fantastic! Car in question is nephew's , living in Spain where it is a legal requirement to carry a spare at all times (& he's getting it registered there , paperwork/approval/inspections have to be 100% correct) So because of the nuisance factor with the wheel filling up the boot, trying to come up with a solution. Someone must have solved this considering the number of LPG conversions carried out!
Was thinking of a bog standard clamp on rack on the bonnet but rejected on
too many obvious negatives. Thought about mounting under the tow bar arms kinda like a spare on a trailer..no ! A tow bar mounted carrier would seem like a good solution (same principle as a bike rack) but can't source anything. I would have thought the expedition suppliers would have something but so far must be looking in the wrong places.
A test for ingenuity & improvisation!

Hello GGG,
I'm interested too in adding a spare tire carrier.
I have the idea to modify my MaxxRaxx hitch bike carrier in order to carry it occasionnaly for offroading or long distance trips.

I've planned to do it this summer.

If he isn't goign for looks could he maybe just carry it on the roof on a roof rack to pass the inspection and then remove it until he finds a better solution??

That's a plan Wills but would be concerned about the "bendability" of the bodywork wherever it's fitted & needless to say the day you take it off will be the day you need it!
Hi Florent I was thinking along your lines & I have a Thule bike rack & back box which is tow bar mounted & tilts away for opening the rear.I think they're very good & stable & a friend used it on his L322 very successfully too
Using the clamp & a Disco wheel mounting bracket might be somewhere to go though I wouldn't mutilate a good rack it would seem simple enough for a welder/fabricator to think through.
Just seen other thread on swing away contraption so will follow that up but if it is like a Disco I think it would involve drilling into the bodywork which would be a serious mistake IMHO....keep the ideas coming

its not going for an MOT, its in Spain, they have an ITV if I remember correctly and everything has to (supposedly) work 100% (thats the way I always understood it anyway).
So I don't know if having a spare wheel loose in the boot would pass.
If you were going for the roof idea then get hold of the offical roof rack that slots into the holes on the roof. You could then run two cross bars from side to side and clamp it to that - ugly but would probably pass you.
If not that then maybe you could modify the inside. On the right hand side where theres no sub for the sound system maybe you could mount it upright there like jeeps and older classics do?? Would take some modificatiion though

Hi Wills thought about that one with a Disco type wheel mounting bracket (16" wheels!) but do you think the panel would be strong/stable enough , they are heavy. Guess trial & error is the way.
