For those of you who have Land Rover Owners mag you will have seen the top ten places in the world to drive your landy. The one that realy grabed my interest was the Iceland bit. Anyone else thought of this as being some where they would like to go? Not realy somewhere I'd want to go with just the one vehicle for quite a few reasons like breaking down. I have done no more at the minute other than think "thats sounds like a good idea" and just wanted to test the water to see if anyone may be interested im going some time next year???

For those who havent got the LRO mag here is some info included in the artical.

You can find graved roads and off road paths all over Iceland and 95% are open to the public.

65% of the road system is tarmac and the other 35% well.. isn't. Thats not counting lots of uncharted trails.

June through August can be a bit cold at nights but at this time of year the sun shines 24hrs a day which is spectacular

Their is a Land Rover importer "B&L Reykjavik" who can deliver spares almost anywhere in Iceland the next day.

Cost to get there and time taken is as follows.

Depart Aberdeen to Lerwick (11 Hours) from 250 pounds plus cabin from 152 pounds.
Then depart Lerwick to Seydisfjordur (27 Hours) cost from 360 pounds for landrover and 2 passegers

Around 762 quid. Not sure if thats return yet but I am trying to find out.

Any one thinking that sounds like somthing they might want to do. I'm not after Oh yes I will absolutly come but just to see if i'm not the only one out there that fancys a different type of summer holiday. Just say Hmmmm sounds intreresting. We can find out more info from there and see if its an option or not.

Cheers

If your old enough to rember that Iceland (The shop) used to be called Bejam then the cold wind of Iceland may be too much for your old bones. Keep your feet up and have another Bovril. My nan has one of those giant slippers that you put both feet in if you need to borrow it. Its even got heat controls:D

Have you ever been to Aldi or Lidl though? Surprisingly good quality.

Trying to spin back to Iceland in a tenuous way, I found out that Greenland is part of Denmark. How mad's that?

i prefere netto to be honest, i think they are all the dregs of supermarkets but the bread from aldi is always fresh and lidl have some nice cakes. i go in all three to look at the non food bargains but in order of ****tiness,
aldi-worst 1st place
lidl-next 2nd place
netto-best 3rd place
