The HK speakers are an upgrade in name and cost, more than actual sound reproduction. From testing I've done on HK speakers, the HK were only slightly better than the standard speakers. The sound can be bettered for less money, by using another speaker manufacture. I chose the JVC CS-J620X I fitted because they sound good on a budget. I've not tested the HK VS the JVC directly, but to my ears and the tone tests tests I've done, they're good for the modest cost (under £20) of them.

It should be kept in mind that a car door is hardly a good speaker enclosure, so will need improvement for speakers to sound better. ;)

@Nodge68, I hope you'll take this question for me please. Last night I continued searching the forum extensively and you answered me elsewhere regarding TD4 HSE 2004 facelift door regulators etc. I suddenly got concerned that someone had stolen the Harman Kardon amplifier and associated equipment from the car, since some outfit (bodging MF's in my humble opinion) had poorly wired in replacement door speakers (Macrom - whoever they are, with 8Ω impedance ). I'll be replacing with your suggested JVC option; I agree with the value for money point.

I just looked. The HK amp and boot woofer are intact  (VIN said they would be).

BUT, are the tweeters I have Harman Kardon? The second picture please; I am doubtful, wondering if they are 8Ω impedance too but don't want to rip 'em out without sound (pardon the pun) justification. Do they look correct to you? Apart from getting soldering iron and heat shrink to the wiring that is...

AND FINALLY, do you know, or anyone else, what the unattached connection at the door mirror is please? It isn't ICE related from what I can see, but would like to know.

Thanks in advance

Connection for power fold mirrors.
Possible they failed and was disconnected. They fold from the stick that moves the mirror position, pull down to fold / open.

That makes perfect sense! I have yet to investigate the interior of the mirror, but they are not folding. I think I have bought a vehicle with some, ahem, modifications done by an idiot who bought a well looked after car 2 years or so ago, but who could not afford and/or did not have the knowledge and resourcefulness to fix failings and problems which arose. I know he/she was an insanitary mf but I don't want to put anyone off their Christmas food.
