Strangely I thought I asked this before but cannot find it anywhere.

My rear door speaker is tinny, like its just the tweeter working. I was reading could be wiring.

So door panel off today and had the speaker out, wires looked good, no chaffing through the door and in good condition, but the connector and speaker connector needed a clean as a little bit of corrosion but nothing excessive. Put it back together and the same thing.

The tinny sound is coming from the main speaker itself as I had the tweeter disconnected, its like there is no midrange at all and virtually no volume.

My question is where is the next place to look?

Are the amps in these cars known for single channels going wrong?

Thank you

Or even though the door speaker looks perfect is it possible its the speaker itself? Wish I had of had the other door card off now and could of tried the speaker in that :/

I never checked that you know.

Since writing this post I think the best thing to do is remove both door cards and try the speaker in the other door which works fine, then I can rule out or confirm the speaker.

Have just ordered some new door clips as the old ones were knackered.

Additionally how to people remove the plastic cover on the pull handle? I pulled it with so much force its taken off half the skin on my hand lol, surely theres a better way?

That's what I'd do, or swap them front to back on the same side.;)

I use a trim removal spudger.

If you mean the plastic trim behind the pull handle then take out screw, pull handle as if opening door and trim will slide out from behind. No lacerations necessary!! Maybe you mean another bit?

Bit of a long shot but does anyone happen to know the screw type and size that fits the speakers to the door. Have lost my screws somewhere :/

Cheers mate, I would have done that myself if my car is here. But its away at the moment, new speaker on the way and no way to fix it on

I didn't get a chance to look at the screws directly, but I have referred to some pictures of when I changed my speakers.
Looking at the pictures, it's clear that the factory speaker screws are just standard self tapping screws, of the type that holds car trim together.

These are available at places like halfords in packs, for a couple of quid.
They look like this.

They are about 4 or 5mm thick and about 20mm long.

Hope this helps.

If you want to upgrade the sound from the system, you can fit standard 6 1/2" speakers to the door, just by drilling some more 3mm holes to mount them. It's also a worthwhile improvement to fit sound deadening material to the door and rear of the trim panel, like in this picture.

Also note the original speaker screws now holding the new JVC coaxial speakers in place. ;)
