I saw the different ads for the icarsoft diagnostic tool which looks interesting not so comprehensive as other diagnostic tools but at slightly less than £100 much cheaper, situation seem to be quite confusing, if you look at some ads they mention defenders from 1997 while others seem to mention only 2007 onwards
I called one of the people selling the tool and he was not 100% sure but offered to refund my money if it did not work, so I orders one
When it arrived I plugged it in and worked through the menus to Defender, 1997-2004 , Diesel TD 5 and sure enough it read the ECU S/N and program date, so it must be communicating with the ECU, but when I select data stream most of the readings just show<<<.
Only the rpm and the manifold pressure show any numbers but these are way out and do not change at all when the engine is revved.
Just wondered if anyone else has any experience off this tool? iI am doing something wrong or if it just does not work on the defender TD5
It is also marked as the Terrfirma TF 930 but I think they are identical.

hi, i have this tool and had this problem. i updated firmware and still same problem.
also i have tried 2 disco td5 and keep getting:

Manifold pressure circuit fault
Inlet air temp circuit fault low
Multiplex input circuit fault low
1% reference voltsge fault low
Driver demand 3 fault low
Ambient pressure circuit fault low.

as to the problem you have raywin, when i look through the streaming data (or lack of) it gets stuck also.

Yes that may be the case but these are not sold as OBD2 readers the advertising says Defender compatable and it has a menus for defender TD5 1997 to 2004 photos are not fantastic but it is clear enough they are for Land Rover, and Jaguar.

And its also clear enough they dont read td5 land rovers

just had a look at these,
they work on the defender 2007 onward, so tdci puma models and petrol disco from 2002, but not td5

the point of that linked thread was made thoug, in a fully agree with it: Icarsoft i930 on TD5 , i've had many kind of readers myself and have some experience in that field, this tool is way too expensive for what it does FOR A D2 Td5 ... it worths the money only if you have some newer modell of LR
