Freelander stuck... Never! - YouTube

feckin pmsl that they had to justify why they were so crap

yep there is no explanation and all the blameing this and blameing that its still crap offroad and its there in full video glory..i declare we is the winners:cheer2:

I think its pretty much an open n shut case innit ;):)

excuses excuses excuses
:your_wrong:

All vehicles have their abilities. It's about accepting what it can do as opposed to what it can't. I agree experience helps but we all get stuck sometimes. Can you give us an assessmint of what went wrong in this one?

Friendly video

Vehicle, tyres, driver or perhaps something else? As above, no eggscuses. We're all land rover owners. I just ours are different to yours.

hippo, great video buddy and a very good demonstration on the landies

game set and match to us dont u think, lolol

felt like the range rover was the most put out, surprising how much difference the traction control works

but i cut my teeth in a series landy and just moved on to something more comfortable and easier to drive yet still having good capabilities and most importantly a land rover badge on the bonnet

has the disco 1 got traction control ????

would u say traction control works better than diff locks plse or about the same ,

seems strange that when u see other off roaders ie, bmw and porsche etc and them getting stuck on grass, makes me wonder how bad there systems must be, or are just crap drivers, lolol

the one where they are in the snow reminds me of my old freelander when I had just had a new vcu of freelander spares and I fund out it was no good

u now need a proper offroad video obviously that's just some man made ruts..

now get all the same vehicles in mud and water and do a comparison video;)

No eggcuses now. Stop moving the goal posts. It's not just any old man made ruts. It's the yarwell oft road site. I don't have a video of the axle twister but I does have this one which shows what ma heap can do. Freelanders are what they are, and can do what they can do. Enjoy:

I think your confoosing offroading with greenlaneing..

that vid may have been an offroad site but it was just dry tracks and where there was any significant water you avoided it,thats just greenlaneing which any softroader could do,infact most 2wd suvs could do that its not really offroading is it ;)

The range rover classic probably had a failed vcu. If it weren't for that then he may have got through ok. Disco 1 doesn't have traction control. The red tratter had traction control but you need to leave the power on a little longer to get it to operate and help you out in a tratter, from what I can see, when compared to a Freelander.

Diff lock v traction control?
A central diff lock locks the 2 prop shafts so the same amount of power goes to the front and rear axles. That's handy for oft road use as you can fix the drive to both axles to give yourself a betterer chance if yer struggling. Each prop splits the power to the wheels evenly on the axle pair via a diff, when the wheels are on the ground with the same amount of grip. Power to each wheel can vary to allow for turning. If one wheel from an axle pair is oft the ground or slipping more than the other then the power will go to that wheel and is then lost. In that situation if you had traction control then it would sense the speed of the spinning wheel being much faster than it should be and use the abs to pulse brake the spinning wheel. That would help to force the power to the wheel with grip, on the same axle. You would hope the other axle wheels had both wheels on the ground with grip too. If not then power would be lost to the spinning wheel. Traction control would help here too if fitted. Traction control can work happily without a centre locked diff but if the diff is locked then it will help it. If you get 1 wheel on each axle pair in the air like some did in the video then you loose momentum as the power goes to the wheels with the lease grip. the newer LR vehicles have the option of a rear locking diff too. Newer vehicles like the Disco 4 have a rear locking diff too. that provides fixed power to both rear wheels which is handy. What's best between locking diffs and traction control? Naturally traction control must be good if it can make a Freelander good oft road. Locking diffs help guarantee the power split. Both have good sides but vehicles with locking diffs benefit by having traction control fitted to make them betterer.

All vehicles have an ability and it's important to accept each vehicle for what it is, and what it can do. It's not a contest, although the tratterers like to think it is and demand we all drive around in damp draftt biscuit tins. Tratterers may pick on Freelanders and their owners but would they prefer us to drive something from another manufacturer or allow us to keep our Freelanders instead?

Your missing the point compleatly, for what the Freelander is,it's a very capable vehicle. All cars/4x4s have their limits!!

I choose not to go through water these days but have done in the past. All it does is make a mess of ma nice clean Freelander. Especially the engine bay. Water often has other crap in it like mud/sand/clay and cow poo. It loves to cause trouble with oil seals (drive shaft seal on mine) and bearings (air con compressor on mine) and loces to cause trouble with electrics. Then there's the cost of repairs. The more you break it the more repairs/costs involved. Also the time to do the repairs. My heap is my daily drive. When it's broke'd I don't have another vehicle to use. I could go out and buy a new tratter as a spare vehicle and gain some street cred on ere but it isn't the vehicle I need and would be a wasted purchase. I'd be betterer oft with a Freelander 2 when comparing what you get for the money. So I look after my Freelander on and oft road and use it a way which doesn't damage it too much. Hence why I keep out of deep water. Any fool could try the impossible and get stuck. I prefer to have a go oft road and set my limits and don't go any further. I then know I can drive home ok after having a great day out. Ere's a water pic for ya.

You are all missing the point :p

Freelanders are just well CARS

Tratters have character and names :D:D

mines an out and out toy.. if I break it I fix it as and when funds allow..i don't let worrying about it enjoy my day out.i always go above and beyond when I can as im always looking to challenge my motor and myself..

ive often been stuck waist deep in water inside mine but I got wet oh well..the challenge is always if someone gets stuck someone has to do it for bragging rights..:D

Why were Freelanders used for camel trophy then, if there rubbish off road.....there in the 1998 part of the vid, near the end. :)

Camel Trophy Land Rover Years - YouTube
they were used so the bench mark wasn't set very high..no good a fender setting the benchmark and a gaylander trying to follow..but if a gaylander goes 1st they know everything else will make it when the gaylander gets stuck;)
