In my early working days I had to learn how to use a chain in land surveying. An ancient device which is a chain with markers hanging off - a primitive sort of tape measure. Only ever saw or used one in the classroom, they were obsolete centuries ago. Thats where the unit of measurement comes from. I understand wicked boys n girls now have another use for chains

We had one at primary school, lugged it up the hill to measure the Common, well, a bit of it anyways ...
Good for measuring cricket pitches, being 22 yards anorl ...
Edited to add : Only take out of use in 1985 ...

Just went outside to take in the night air sat here writing this.
No moon tonight, but no clouds either so a sky full of stars it’s great to see it in its full glory (we are blessed with some fantastic views night and day)
And that star cluster (can’t remember it’s name) is there again it’s annoying not to able to look directly at it cos it disappears.
Starting to get cold now in the nights so we are closing the doors now

Just got back from our 30th wedding anniversary jaunt to Melbourne, Australia. It was pretty special as it was the first time the Mrs had flown since 1993

Av adder nap un be sat lisnin ter clarkson ont telly wile ont lz. Ah binter check me wata buts un they be all filled ter tup un p*ssin oot. Me milliput wata but repair be ol'din ok anorl. The uk as adder lotter rain terday. Tiser gud job ah fixed me roof with sealer un it be still holderin ok me finks. Ah still dun't know why eye be not sheepin. Yup, am fine too. Weekend on the Ashtray for our anniversary so away from all the little things that want doing. Lots of walking , and a few sherbits, and some nice food, and a couple more sherbits. Ergo, I is tired, but more relaxed than have been for a while (course I'll be back to work tomorrow
Hope you finds your sheep. I lost mine for quite a while and I missed them.
