Well in the days of keg beer, pre CAMRA and all that, it was a heck of a lot better than a lot of the rubbish that was around.

Tankard... Tasted like one with no beer in it.
Courage Best..... not really!
We were saved by being close to Devizes, so Wadworths, and being able to get hold of proper scrumpy if you knew where to go.
And Courage Directors was OK, if you could find it.
Tartan was bearable. Just.

When I was moving around the country a bit in my working life I found that the same brand of beer was brewed differently in different parts of the country to suit local tastes. Whitbread in the north east was krap, in Kent it was nectar. By far the best beers were found in Kent. Sadly one by one the best breweries closed down, but still some good ones out there.

Kent was the hop central of the UK so that dont surprise me , when I was a kid whole families would go and stay for 2 weeks hop picking as there annual Holliday

We have some micro breweries as you get closer to Lunnen Town, they have some surprising stuff,
some tasty, some bit 'out there' - more for the niche market ...

Ringwood Brewery, which was small, maybe micro, dunno, closed down fairly recently, which was a real shame. You could buy small barrels for parties and stuff. We had one for my 40th. Twas great.We have some micro breweries as you get closer to Lunnen Town, they have some surprising stuff,

Yep. Seems to be growing on the edge ov me tiles. The side edge thats 3/4 inch fick.
