I've just been idly browsing base layer garments on the internet as a way of relaxing before bed. My goodness me it's an expensive business to keep yourself slathered in famous name outdoor wear brand logos. I've always taken the view that if Rab, Helly Hansen et al want me to do their advertising for them they should pay me. Not the other way round.

I remember reading a science fiction story in the 1970s - possibly by Thomas M. Disch - about a future dystopia in which poor people sold advertising space on their bodies. It struck me as a little far fetched at the time. However, after a while it became commonplace, and more than that, poor people themselves actually paid for the privilege! What a stroke of genius on the part of clothing brands and designers. They must have laughed all the way to the bank - people will pay us to do our advertising for us!

Just back in from visiting Xylia in the hospital. She's being plied with intravenous antibiotics and they keep taking blood samples. She seems to be a lot more comfortable now I've taken in more of her own clothes and some consumer electronics. She likes plenty of iPhones and iPads in her life. One of the nurses said that it looked like some of the swelling and inflammation had gone down. Maybe it has - some of the affected areas seemed a little less congested and a bit softer. Anyway, we'll see how she's doing tomorrow.

One good thing is that they're looking after her pretty diligently. One thing that worried me a bit about her going into hospital was that there might not be anyone to take care of her. My mother had several spells of hospitalisation in the 1990s and early 2000s and you never saw the staff at all. People's relatives seemed to do a lot of the caring, coming in with dustpans and brushes to clear the fluff from under the beds and sterile wipes to clean the bedstead and trays. The WRVS ladies used to come round with a trolley with tea and coffee, chocolate bars and miniature cakes each afternoon, and they did quite a lot of work in looking after the patients. That was 20 odd years ago. But this is a different world. The nurses and care assistants are busy, but they're certainly looking after the patients. If they're not taking temperatures and blood samples they're going round asking people if they want a cup of coffee.

Thanks again to everyone who's been offering good wishes. Everybody's being so nice!
Glad to hear things seem to be improving a bit and that she is getting good care.:)

Not sure this is the place, but I have always been told my leathers are tight and it shows. Not sure what that means 🤔.

J
It means you have a VPL.🤣🤣🤣🤣

I used to have one of those my first year in teaching.
One class bought me a present but made me swear not to get angry when I opened it.
So I opened it and it was a "Five pounds thinner" girdle. I asked them if they thought I was overweight?
They goggled at me so I told them what it was, they got furious with the poor girl who had gone with her mam to buy the "no visible panty line knickers" and got the wrong thing!

So I put it on over my trews, I and the whole class pead ourselves laughing and kids went running off into other classes to get kids to come in and have a look! In the end I paraded up and down the landing, 5 classrooms off it plus the faculty room!! A good laugh was had by all.

Jeez teaching could be fun back in those days. (1981-2)🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I too refuse to do it!
I even cut the labels off jeans. Blow them, I am not a walking sandwichboard. :(:(:(

Here's a thing.
W ordered two bots of traditional Angostura bitters, as we do like our pink gins, (everyone in the family seems to have given her a fancy bottle of gin for birthdays and Christmas. I also put it in G&T.
Opened one today the "pink" isn't flipping pink at all it is amber!
Checked back on Angostura website and sho nuff, it should be pink. (Well I knew that already).
I get the feeling they have accidentally filled this bot with the orange bitters that they make but comes in a very different bot.
Emailed Angostura to see what they think!
Beeesare!

Morning All. :D
We're both still hacking and spluttering here at Clarke Towers. Seems to be a tough one to shake off. :(
Had the G-Kids here 2 nights on the bounce.
Ran out of Lan over Power adapters and had to string a cable from the router to a bedroom up the outside wall.
Found my grandson downloading games for all he was worth because I have a 350MB service and he's on a slow 50Mb link at home and so it takes him forever there. Bless him. :)
They go back to their Mum at 11 today.:D
Have a good day everyone! :D
