Just had a bit of a panic arranging crossings for when we are already over there.
Have to come back for #1 dottir's second wedding.
No fault of her's due to Covid, it has been put off and put off so now it is just before the Jubilee. So going to Engerland is OK, overnight stay with friends then off the following day. But due to trying to get back at about the same time as the Jubbly we had to take a crossing that arrives in Caen at 2130 hrs! So many people must be adding the two bank holidays to their ornery holiday. The day we are coming back the other two crossings were full. So I think I'll be kipping in the cabin during the day crossing and driving through the night. Kipping in an aire or two if nec on the way down.:(:(
If we'd been sure of getting visas we'd have been able to book earlier. :(:(:(
Still, done now.;)
The Etias system was due to begin in May but has now been pushed back to the end of the summer, so maybe loads of peeps are getting stuck in before all this new sh!t kicks off.
Wonder how many even realise this is on the cards?:(:(:(:(:(

Have you thought about flying?

J

Afternoon folks:).

Well its been bloody chilly here last few days so sort of hibernated a little:).
Been out in garage and think i may have tracked down the slight exhaust leak/smell in car. On start up and checking I could only find 1 joint which was dripping watta (not surprising as temps and cold start up) its the last joint under the rear and I guess this could get fumes in, must check for any grommet missing in the wheel well later;).

Anyway its the start of the GP season and just about to settle down and watch round 1:).

The locals are setting up there yearly bonfire up the hill, its mainly youngster's and something to do with the beginning of lent, this year is quite big:eek:.
(Greta dont read) It seems to be the way of getting rid of the old tyres from the village built up during the year:eek:.

Hope all have had a relaxing day doing as you like:D.

With three dogs? Also there is no airport close to where we live in either country that does a flight. Used to do Bournemouth to Toulouse, but sadly no more. that would still have involved a 1 1/2 hour car journey one end and a taxi at the other.
We have both flown in and out before and had friends fly in and out, but it does take a lot of organising. This way we get to see friends as well, who live in Cherbourg.

Or even foot passengers ?
Drive near french port & park motor. Get in boat & at other end get someone to collect you.
Ouistreham,long-term parking. All the info i have found says €25 a week, but that is 5 years old and with Covid, terrorism and illegal immigrants it's prolly impossible now. It's a small place. Once over there we will be doing a lot of running around for the wedding etc so will need transport, where we live public transport stinks. The wedding is not that nearby either, at about 40 minutes away.
Flying, Again wouldn't be impossible, but we would have to ask the person getting ready for her wedding to transport us! Or a hugely expensive taxi from Portsmouth at about 10:30 pm to our place. (Most of our friends are old and go to bed at about 9 pm!) Also travelling with three dogs as foot passengers would be a nightmare even if possible. Then same problems with transport once here.
We were originally intending for me to stay in France and W to fly out from Toulouse and then stay with #2 dottir in Worcestershire. But very strong atmosphere was made at the idea that I wouldn't be there, even though W's ex will be there thus strong threat of fisticuffs with me if he gets anywhere near us.:(:(:(

BONKERS!!!!! But I like it!
But yes I do get it that some don't understand us.
Point is here are the reasons in favour.
W won't drive off the road in her sleep as she did once, and by a miracle, both her and car survived. she really can't drive long distances any more but she does like to be able to go where she wants when she wants just as she does here.
We can fill her car to the roof with junk.
Fuel and Autoroute costs will be much reduced.
Bizarrely it will also be cheaper on the ferry, and all this is in BOTH directions.
Downside is I won't be able to play my music, even at low volume, instead I will have to listen to a talking book or two.
What might make sense would be to hire a trailer in Frogland as W can be trusted to drive to Portmuff OK, but then we'd have to find a trailer hire company that doesn't mind you leaving it 550 miles away.

Found this for ye........

The Eagles in concert on Channel 11 at the mo if anyone's interested!
One of the best songs ever written about snowflakes "Get over it" was theirs.
A 6th former of mine told me about it and then gave me a cassette with all the tracks from the LP he'd just bought with it on.
Still got it somewhere!
(It might have been a CD, it wasn't all that long ago but he defffo gave me a cassette!):):):)

Put my fender battery on charge this morning and the charger red-lighted after half an hour indicating it won't hold charge. Tried again, same result. So got a noo one ordered. Old one is a Varta, which has lasted just under 5 years. The original it replaced was also a Varta but I replaced it with a slightly higher amps and CCA. Both lasted just under 5 years but I suspect the replacement was not right up to scratch from new but it never failed to start me tratter. Any road up I've had me plastic squander card out and ordered a Bosch this time. With a 5 year warranty.
Eye bortid a bosch battery for ma hippo. Good eye dear to buy a Freelander battery. ;)
