Thanks for this.I got asked the same questions and left out my 2 years in the USA.
All they want to know for is to alert you to claiming any pensions you are due from other countries too.
In my case I was an assignee for IBM and we worked under a tax-treaty where we continued to pay full NI and hypothetical tax on our full UK earnings (as if we had never left the UK at all), so I didn't deem it at all relevant.
My state pension kicks in 29th December.
But I will be prepared to argue as I just dug out the Teacher's Pensions booklet given to me years ago and it seems to contradict this, at least in part.
Must say I likes a series. Like the one in @Hippo post 32676. The first landy I ever drove was a series 3 SW 6 cyl petrol. Fresh from a garage engine rebuild in 1979 and full loaded with timber for a 150 mile trip to a site I was working on. Thought it drove like a gutless dog (I didn't know they were all like that, my boss gave the garage a rocket for not doing the rebuild proper like). In reality it was probably better than most. It was handed to a bricky gang who used it for a 100 mile daily round trip to get them to and from site, and to nick loads of sand and bricks. It earned its keep.

I was contracted out of the state system for 20++ years when I enrolled in the company pension scheme. When I was invited to apply for the state pension I got the full monty. Even though I had odd years off semi retired, the odd few months I worked in those off-years counted. I don't know how they worked out I was due a full state pension, which I wasn't expecting, but I'm not gonna ask
Had a good day today. Got some decorating prep work done. Then watched my team on tinterweb kicking a ball round an empty stadium and winning 4 nil whilst scoffing a choccy noringe and drinking Chivas Regal. Followed by a curry cooked by SWMBO. It don't get better than this
