Guys and Gals, the tent knowledge shown by some is amazing!!

This very kind donation will enable us to 'rest' our 'big' tents for a season - and allow us to service them when time allows this winter/spring - pitching them in the scout hut and spraying them with gallons of waterproofer over a few days/weeks to build up a really good level of protection.

Also, we would like the Scouts/Cubs to experience hike tents rather than the 'luxury' of a stander upper 6 man family tent.

We would also be more likely to go away more often on 'dump' camps where we hike/drop the Scouts into an area with a few tents and some provisions and leave them 'fend for themselves' for a night or two. Obviously, myself and our student leader would be warmly secreted away in the Disco watching TV and listening to the Scouts via a cunningly hidden walkie talkie.

I understand the canvas/modern fabrics discussion all to well - as a small group modern fabrics offer us the advantage of relatively quick pitching coupled with ease of service as in drying the tent when wet. They are also light enough to be hiked by small/medium sized cubs/scouts without too much whinging or hassle.

Spares are also pretty readily available and if a pole/tent should bust/rip on camp a roll of electrical tape or gaffa tape often fixes most things and holds on modern fabrics/materials better than on canvas/wood.

Again, it is totally amazing how generous LZers are - so much so that I will make sure that my Disco will be LZ'ded up when its back on the road in the next few days.

I do not hesitate to mention LZ whenever Landys crop up in conversation, not just with Landy folk but normals as well. This will just increase my shouting of LZ from the rooftops.
