I am looking to but a Deisel or LPG Range Rover, I have up to £5k to spend on one and was wondering is there anything that I should be looking out for i.e faults?

I would preferably like one thats done under 90k miles and from 1997 onwards.

Any advice appreciated.

if your getting a diesel, you will be as well looking up the omega 2.5 and/or bmw 2.5 engine. about 136 bhp

slow for a large car, relable compared to the v8.

can be chipped and made to run faster.

check it starts after its warm, hot start problem.

the body is the same as the petrol so all the switches/knobs/air suspension require a very thorogh run through and visual check.

a few more miles won't hurt if all else is good. try to keep a grand or so on hand for all the things you WILL be fixing in the next 3 - 6 months as you get to grips with it.

rg iam sorry i forgot about yours, was sort of hoping you would give it to me, as mine is broken hahahaha happy new year rg.

Anything in particular?

Air suspension units! Not expensive and an easy DIY job if you are reasonably handy. Look to see if the car sinks with the doors shut and the engine off. If it does you have leaks in the system. also drop the car to acces height, then see how long it takes to come up to normal height, if it is slow that can also be due to leaks and/or a worn compressor:eek:

Plenty on Ebay

i have bought two from there

have a good surf around and watch a few for a month or so that will give you an idea of price you ought to pay

Lots for sale with faults so if you are handy you could pick up a bargain

there are 85 diesel models for sale between 1994 - 2002

Good luck

Everyone keeps on about checking the "Coolant" but what am I checking it for?

Not too much to worry about if you're goin for the diseasel, but if you look at a V8, the first signs of trouble can be found in the coolant system.

Look for level obviously, and colour. Nice clean water tinted with antifreeze is what you're after. Any signs of additives only point to possible engine problems.

Evidence of oil in water or very high pressure in the system with the engine running can also indicate possible HGF or slipped liner issues.

After taking the car for a long and I do mean long test drive, check the coolant level again and allow the car to idle on tickover for a long time, keeping a very close eye on the temp gauge, it should never go past the 12 O'clock position. Anything higher could be the early signs of a problem.

Don't get suckered in by the 'its always been like that' line, there are plenty out there, so walk away.
