Thanks a lot for the answers.quick question as I'm on my way to get one
If it's coil converted, does it have hill descent control? And can you convert into a 7seater?
Thanks in advance

Now I'm less stressed than yesterday, I was in the middle of three "landy appointments"
Thank you so much for all your answers, you all have clarified all my doubts. I'll definitely go for a D2, in in a little doubt about manual or auto, I like much more manuals and I never have had an auto so I have no clue regarding its off-road behaviour.
The reason for asking yesterday about 7seater conversion was because one of the discovery's was absolutely stunning for the price and it was 5 seater, I don't mind to be fair as they'll rare used. We agreed a price but at paying off time I realised it had no A/C which for me it's absolutely necessary as I'd like to drive down to Spain from time to time in summertime.

The other question regarding Hill descent was because I saw a proper off roading discovery but the guy told me that the reason why the hdc didn't work in that car was because the car had a coil suspension fitted and that made the hdc not to work, as soon as I heard that I got suspicious and apart from that the pedal clutch felt really really hard but gears engaged well.

So I keep my seeking... patience and patience

Only issue there might be is about insurance if you modify to add seats to an original 5 seater.

Originally all 7 seaters were air suspension. Have you tried the rear seats out? they are very cosy, I personally would not want to spend any length of time in them.

Also, ref the HDC, if it does not work then it can mean the HI LO switch has failed, this is a £45 part to fit. I think that is mentioned in the attachment I linked for you earlier in the post.

How have the rear chassis been? be careful of lots of underseal......

Cheers

Evening Boys , im new here , hope you dont mind me butting in ?
Ive got a 54 plate s2 commercial all the bells and whistles , cruise ,diff lock, leather, ac, etc etc BUT its an auto, it was absolutle crap until i had it remapped, now i love it , although , average mpg local runs 20 ish towing not much different, average mpg long runs 28 ish and it is no different after the map.

As someone who is looking for a D2 (or maybe D3) at the moment, but probably not a gas-powered one, can I raise the question of mpg if I had to use a Disco as a main car.
When I had a business, I ran a petrol Omega automatic. It did about 40 mpg on motorways. Then I retired and took on "caring", which involved doing tiny trips (eg Home->other house->supermarket->doctors->our house->their house). Each leg was between 200yards and 1/4 mile and involved a long wait, letting the engine cool. So with "Full choke" all the time, the Omega's mpg dropped to 7 - 9 mpg. At the same time in the same use our diesel auto D1 did about 18 - 20mpg and the manual diesel Octavia about 40 mpg. Since then I've always thought the advice against diesel for short journeys was nonsense.
Am I right to assume that an lpg conversion has the equivalent of a choke effect and anyway has to be started on petrol? We would use the Disco as a secondary main car while the Skoda was in for service or otherwise out of action
.
LPG starts on petrol and mines kicks across to LPG when the coolant temp hits 36c. Once youre at running temp you can stop and start it on gas if you want but even if you don't it flicks to gas within seconds. I don't really measure my MPG but after a day of short hops and running around recently mine had done 13mpg on gas. But as LPG is only 48p per litre and diesel was 119p that day mine was doing the equivalent of 32.5mpg :D

LPG choice looks very interesting, that's the best way to drive a super V8, but getting a 2nd hand LPG from my point of view is a lottery I would have to take the landy to a LPG specialist in the area to check it in deep.

Regarding the 7seaters, if it comes with 5 I won't bother, you're right, time money a effort don't worth it.

If you get LPG Prinz is among the best, but DO NOT GET A MIXER SYSTEM.

It needs to be sequential gas injection.

However the biggest issue with the V8 in the D2 is just how good the Diesel engine in the D2 is. It can make the V8 a difficult purchase.

I have driven a V8 D1 and my D2 is quicker and feels torquier.

The V8 is smoother and quieter but you do miss that low-end grunt from the diesel.

The V8 was definately near the end of development, not a bad engine, also the correct one for the RR1.

Was a pity LR could not have afforded a newer petrol engine as well. Was a good lump but not powerful nor that torquey for the size.

Which is exactly what I did.... luckily I have a good friend who is an LPG specialist ;)
