So to sum up then the p38 is not nearly as bad as some less imformed members would have us believe.I LOVE MINE !
It has to be said - being esconsed in leather, with the feel of real wood in one's hands, and the sound of the Harman Kardon filling the room, who wants to drive fast?
And - in response to the OP - we've had our P38 for two years now. After fixing most of the inherited problems, the only things to have gone wrong in the time we've had it are the MAF, crankshaft sensor, and EAS compressor (seal). These were all relatively cheap and easy to fix.
More money has been spent per year on repairing our 6 year old VW Transporter (fortunately mostly under warranty) than on the P38, even though we do about the same number of miles per year in each. And now the VW is starting to rust in several places, and every time it rains I get a half inch deep puddle in the passenger step.

lol fookin ell, It was only a late night wind up- some p38 owners have no sense of humour
luckily some do, gemsdad it was my uncles 65th birthday party- I meant to get in touch with some of the boys up there like joe and yourself- next time when its not just a weekend jaunt we should have a beer
and it was southbound on the m6 but I was in my bmw. bloody traffic on the m6 north of the toll was terrible both directions :doh:
