Hi all, i have a 300tdi disco, and got the usual boot rot, i have all the panels but am abit nervous of doing it by myself i was going to rivet it in place and then shutz bith sides water tight. But if theres any one who does private work id rather get it welded in.

Contrary to popular belief the boot floor is not a structural item and the seatbelt mounts do not fasten to the floor. They pass thru it and are mounted to the chassis. The rear seatbelts are mounted to the wheel arches. These are not part of the bootfloor. Therefore the bootfloor cannot be failed for corrosion At the worst the tester could use the corosion within 30cm of a safety critical component (the rear seatbelt mechanism) but this is mounted high on the wheel arch and probably not within 30cm of the bootfloor.

I am going to shutz underneath and inside so they will be completely covered plus the boot is covered in chequer plate! So will be plenty strong enough surely

But you have to think about the body mounts .. there classed as structural.... so 30cms of a body mount is a perscribed area !!!
it all depends how harsh the tester is and if he knows his stuff .

I know I am a ways from you... BUT, we have a mig welder, and we have access to advice from some VERY competent welders (Neither I nor my son are qualified to weld to MOT standard and I wouldn't presume to practice on your motor.) If you wanted to drive up here with the panels I would be happy to chat to some of the guys from our group and ask that they help with the repair. You would definitely end up with a boot panel properly fitted. completely up to you.

Again I reckon you'd struggle to get within 30cm of a body mount from the boot floor. don't forget the actual panel is seperate to to wheel arches etc.
