I nearly signed for an 05 plate free lander today, but when i went to collect i had what i can only explain as exhaust gasses coming out of the under neath of the front bumber.

now there is an aluminium tube under neath the front bumper right infront of the passenger side front wheel, which points down to the ground.

i checked a few other freelanders and it seemed to be the turbo deisels that had these pipes. not petrol models.

would any one know what this might or could be.

thankyou in advanced.

cheers mark in cardiff

I that a clue in not to buy it?

Are you saying its a petrol? not sure about the newer one but read on here about the problems that can occur.

its a turbo diesel.

me thinks its something to do with the turbo side. to stop excess build up of exhaust gasses in the intercooler.

nope nothing like that .....

It should only 'kick in' when temp is below 5 deg C and is supposed to get engine water warm to allow warmer air in cab quicker on cold mornings.
There is a further 'silencer kit' available for it as well as a 'timer' so that you can pre-programme it to start before you go out to the car:D.

yu could do a search under "fuel burning heater"

Hi, this is normal for vehicles fitted with a (FBH) , Pull the fuse out it’s easy to do, the (FBH) Fuel burning heater will cut in if the ambient temperature is about 5dg C and burn diesel to aid speeding up heating the coolant –and --- interior. What you saw was the FBH exhaust, its also quite noisy and runs a little after the engine and ignition are off.
Check the handbook it does describe it there, page 213 fuse 5 and Page 78
The fuse is located under the bonnet,

its some kind of fuel heater.when it very cold it heats the fuel before going into the engien.on a short trip it will run for a short while when ignition is switched off.nothing to worry about.
