I need a sunroof sealant .

My sunroof is leaking . I'm sure the drain pipes are blocked , but I want to seal the gap between the rubber and the painted metal roof .
Is there a more suitable sealer than silicone ?
I could whip out the roof lining , then the sunroof and blow out the drain pipe but the sunroof dunt work and is beyond repair .

Any decent silicon sealent will do the job

I suppose it would . I got a small bit of silicone on the paintwork years ago ,forgot to wipe it off at the time and there's no budging it now . I'm not so sure it would stick as good to the rubber , even after a scuff with sandpaper .

^^^^ Thats very good, same stuff i used to use but diff number...stick the tube in hot water before you use it

Sikaflex, can stick like sh*t to a blanket, used it once on rocker gasket on a Capri. It took 6hrs to get cover off next service. Good Luck.

Slightly off-topic, but how do you disable the switch for the sunroof, once it's sealed. Both my sun-roofs were leaking and the guy I bought the car from, said he will permanently seal it, but it won't stop the kids from pressing the buttons.

Is there possibly a fuse I can take out, (that will only disable the sunroofs),
or do I remove the switch and pull the wires out from behind it?

Any help would be appreciated.

just pull out the switch and unplug the clip

I used ordinary clear bathroom silicon sealant when I resealed the sunroof on my wife's car, works fine, no more leaks.

try removing the glass, and cleaning the seals with washing up liquid and water, then lubing the rubbers with vasaline or similar, grit n stuff gets into every little nook, and stops it sealing properly, its worth a try.

On the freelander sunroof you can disconnect the wiring connector to the motor,it can be got at by removing the light in the roof lining .

I washed the car today and cleaned the green slimey muck and stuff off all the window and sunroof seals . Then I decided to cover the vehicle with a tarp ,its well tied down .

I also decided when my insurance expired two weeks ago ,to park it for a month or 2 . Tax will cost €200 for 3 months . I'm now insured on Ms.Fox's fiesta until October for the princely sum of 36yoyo .

I'm sort of tempted to go with the vaseline idea,but use Super Lube instead . I would prefer to be able to clean off whatever sealant I might use , just in case I ever pick up a good replacement sunroof cassete .

the big problem with silicone sealant is that it does not like sticking to rubber and shrinks with heat so on a sunroof where the sun heats it up it fails

That's what I was thinking and there's no getting it off the paintwork . The tarp will do for now , and ,if the weather dries up a bit I will whip out the roof lining and sunroof , just to have a good look before I commit to anything permanent .

I finally got round to buying that tiger seal from the motor factors and whacked it on a few days ago .It was a bit messy,not as neat a finish as i woukd have liked. The tarp seems to have scuffed off patches of paint , it weren't such a good idea to leave it on for a week or 2 .

I'm going to leave it off the road for a few more weeks then tax and insure it

Tiger Seal is the gear to use. I removed my sunroofs, cleaned off the ****ty seal that was there, bead of Tiger Seal and been water tight ever since. Hope I never need to remove them again though, as that stuff is seriously hard to remove.
