Hi

I've got a D4 and am only really interested in reading posts about the D3/D4. Is there a way of setting up filters on the site so that I don't see posts which aren't relevant to me?

It's not that I don't want to join in the party - it's just that my technical knowledge and ability is woeful and any topic which deals with any model other than my own confuses me. Picture me standing in my drive, Disco in bits, saying to my wife "I know the post deals with a D2, but they're all Discos at the end of the day...."

Not a good place to be.

Mmmmm now it may be me but just had a quick gander at the above, purely for research reasons, and there was mention of "going off road & green laning" Mmmm driving on the school sports field and driving down a tree lined avenue spring to mind!

I was speaking with a mate of mine earlier this week, he was telling me about a recent 4WD trip he had done with a bunch of his sons mates, there was about half a dozen vehicles, mostly old D1's, a Nissan, and one guy with a Disco D4, albeit a bit used, in his words.
Long story short, they did a really hard trail in a state forest, I've done that trail in years gone by, it is full on, believe me. My friend, whos D1 is hard core, as were most of the other vehicles, (diff locks, rock sliders, high lift long travel suspensions etc), well he was really impressed with the D4, it went everywhere the older vehicles went, (with a few scrapes and scratches), and some places only a few of the other more intrepid drivers would attempt. Done by the D4 with consummate ease, so no real problems with ability there, just depends on the depth of your pockets and how much you need to keep it pristine.
Though I think you will not be looking to beat the Disco up in the rough, they are a very capable vehicle out of the box and the amounts of cash you chuck at it is mostly optional.

i also belong to that forum and seen many d3-d4 owners on there take there's off road in some extreme conditions , most just having some a/t tyres as the only modification

is nice seeing that there being used what they were designed for

still looking forward to put mine through its paces , has only been through the gentle stuff, , lol

saw a great video of 3 x discos going off road in the outback of aus , there was a d2/D4 and a range rover sport , fantastic looking trip

ur not wrong ref the amount of cash u can throw at them, land rover certainly know how to produce so many extras to be had

Yes I do know that LR products are better than most off road but was using the "stereotype" for humour, oh mother I have brought shame on the name of Nobbs!

Yes, I would like to have one myself, but firstly, could not afford one, secondly if I was fortunate enough to have one I would be reluctant to use it in the bush, I hate scratches and bumps on nice vehicles, even find it painful to give my poor old D1 a rough time, but I have done, just in the name of progress and flying the flag for the LR brand among all the Jappas. And what use is it if you wont use it for the designed purpose.
I know I'll be derided for this, but I'm a closet RR Evoque fan, not that I'd ever be able to afford one of them, but I believe that they'd be a good vehicle, as to if they should wear the RR badge is up for conjecture I'm aware, but I like the size of them and the onroad stance, they look purposeful, especially with a set of big wheels and a mild lift.

I still avoid muddy puddles with my £32 grand disco 19 years on. Maybe if I had an old D3 at a sub 10 grand I my have done it but that thing has no interest just like the other 80% of 4x4 vehicles on the road today.
What RRs Disco etc were designed for by LR has long gone, although LR in their wisdom still call them a "working vehicle" according to the vehicles service schedule.

i would now only take mine on open spaces for off roading , not on the extreme levels , wouldn't take it down narrow lanes with bushes either side to scratch the paintwork, but wouldn't have a problem taking it in open non damaging courses , wading wise i would only take it up to the sills, alas i know it can wade deeper but that kind of off roading is not for me , but wouldnt have a problem putting it through the mud

for me a land rover is a dual purpose vehicle, be it on or off road, being able to go off the beaten track , if i had the money and did buy a D4 i would still take it off road but in a more conservative manner

think land rover serves different needs to owners, some wishing to just use them for snow, or towing horse boxes, others wishing to push them a bit more , think that's the great versatility of them,

how's ur disco going by the way , that is very impressive in having one that long to one owner

i am a lot more cautious having a Disco compared to my other landies , agree also wouldn't take it down narrow lanes to get beaten about , but will use it for what it's intended for, just keeping it away from the more extreme off roading or deep water

my eldest brother has an evoque , found it nice to drive , the back window is a nightmare for visibility, not keen on the interior either, but if everyone liked the same thing it would be boring , lol , got to get him to try my disco to see what he thinks of them , do u like the new evoque convertible ,

In a word..........yes!
But we have too many bright,hot sunny days where we live to actually be able to use one as an every day driver, one would get "frikaseed", and I already have badly damaged skin from my 45 odd years riding about on motorcycles.
Long time back my wife had a pet Jensen Healy, we did a lot of travelling in that but found the daytime sun so uncomfortable in summer that it spent a lot of time with the soft top up, good on brisk winter days though with top down and heater full boar, but we lived in the southern states then.
