I’ve tried searching high and low for a answer and can’t seem to find anything. Bit of a long shot but has anyone ever fitted a snorkel to a 3.9 v8 in a defender? Reason I ask is I’m wanting to do more green laning with it and also girlfriends mother lives in Wales right in the middle of hundreds of lanes and near the strada Florida

Hi Toms,

why not add V8 into the title , may get peeps more interested.

I assume you are asking what needs doing, special snorkel / kit for the V8, anything extra for the V8? points of concern etc. Plus do not forget the breather pipes to the gbox etc etc.

Cheers

Yeah just looking for peoples past experience with fitting one if possible at all possible as looking at the engine lay out and where the current air filter is it seem near dam impossible. The gear box and axels already have breathers on luckily.

Yeah looking to water proof and give it more chance in water i've seen kits for water proofing the electrics, but the air intake is the biggest problem i can see and aslo the biggest cost if it goes wrong

Personally I found the dizzy was the problem. Any moisture at all and the firing would be in trouble.

How did you stop moisture getting in to it? There are breather holes in it but I guess I just can’t go blocking them up as it would cause condensation?

You can get gloves for 4 cylinders, appaently you can get gloves for the v8 but dunno who has 8 fingers. I used damp start but there are other options. Mine wasn't waterproof, just prepped. @classic kev did alot to his in terms of waterproofing.

Have to have a look around on google and see what I can make up at home for the dizzy. Except from the dizzy is there any other electronics I should consider waterproofing? The most obvious I can see is the big block of fuses I have up on the bulk head but is there anything else that’s not so obvious and hidden away I need to do?

The other end of the HT leads could do with a smother of Vaseline or something along those lines.
