i got a disco but i aint dancing!!!

Hi folks, can you help once again please, have got a J plate disco and yesterday it broke

, on way back Fae the shop, and start hearing a grinding noise which sounded like a gear crunching metal and scraping it off more metal, stopped and panicked then jumped back in to try and limp home, she started giving more noise in 3rd & 4th gear, at 20mph. even put her into low box and went OK for quite a while, still whining and screeching, then we came to a very sudden stop

after peeling ourselves off the windscreen we came to the conclusion that it could be the transfer box, although after putting her back into HI she refuses to have anything to do with LO and still comes to a juddering halt. all the noise comes from the front end IE gear/transfer box, if anyone can suggest anything then do let me know,

when did you last check the oils in yer diffs, gearbox and transfer box? You haven't accidently stuck it into difflock and wound yer transmission up have you?

could also be worth a check of yer props. It could be that you had a kanackered u/j which has now decided to give up the ghost and resulted in the prop desintigrating and then hitting the underside of yer landy and preventing forward motion.

if you have wound the transmission, how do you get out of it?
Mine is doing a horrible sound from the t-box and might be that..

haaa, ok, i dont have that problem then, the light goes out as soon as i take it from diff lock to HI or LOW

eek, have no lights on fullstop, and have nothing dangleing from underneath, it looks normal!!!!!!!!!!! there is no drips/leaks, how do i check my levels for the boxes and diffs? dont have the knowledge to take stuff off and repair, though i can take stuff off! there was a burning oil type smell also. now in process of removing propshaft

sounds like kentucky fried gearbox or transfer box.

Extra crispy......

Best thing to do is to drop te plug out and see if metal filings come out with the oil, (or sawdust from previous owner or indeed oil
