I would hope they would keep the Freelander named as it is. FL3... I think reporters like to push the limits when they talk about the future. Years ago the RR was pushed forward which left a gap in the market. The D1 was born. Both models were then pushed forward and the freelander filled the gap. I'm not too fused about problems fixing cars. When I was little peeps would talk about traction control being the work of the devil. Cars have it as standard now. We'll manage somehow.
except the parts are becoming throw away so you wont easily be able to fix it

Agree, we have the brains to fix em - can we afford the parts? Article was with top LR R&D and Freelander is being pushed upmarket just check 2013 specs and prices. LR will change now with more models and US is very important - they were not keen on D3, hence D4, apparently. Freelander name no longer exists in US and naming will become global - anyhow.

This is an issue, along with cost of parts but this will be the same for all makes. Good that Defender goes on for longer, with DC100 fading back!

I dont know if I have ever understood what it was I was supposed to have understood - or have I misunderstood that?

Dont pretend SV - you are one of the few of us on here that does understand and if you dont, well, we are all doooomed! (in a Dad's Army style).

We're all doomed! Apparently

DD, quick question, off topic (no never). On your Disco you can select via smaller gear lever, Hi and Lo range and centre diff lock?

Options are Hi with diff locked, Lo with diff locked, then Hi no lock and Lo no lock. Then on the TD5 the manual selection is just Hi or Lo.

Does this make sense?

and a neutral too on both ,most disco 2s dont have center diff lock as they have traction control which was thought better so no need for cdl, though cdl can be retro fitted ease of depends on what of cdl is already in t/box

Kinda! Difflock was an option on d2s. So some have it some don't! It's forward for low range and left to engage difflock. You also have a neutral between hi and lo!
The early ones had difflock fitted but not connected and you only had to fit the linkage to make it work, late ones like mine it wasn't fitted at all so it's not so easy:( but it's got traction control and hdc like my freelander:)

OK, so yours is a D2 (TD5 or V8) with Hi and Lo selectable but no centre diff lock - so its permanent 4x4 but via a center diff rather than VCU? Reason is, I'm going to jump in the new year and go Disco (poss Def). Have all early Discos (1) got Hi Lo and diff lock?

you can fit borgwarner t/box from a rrc which has a v/c as diff locker ,and i have done a few the beauty of it is having lock while not worrying about cornering etc much better in the snow

Yeah. Td5. You have a transfer box on the back of the gearbox with a diff in it to allow for front and rear speed differences! The diff lock locks it solid, so there is no slip at all. There's a prop going to the rear and another to the front where there's another diff at each end. D1s and defenders are much the same!

Thanks James, looking to avoid VC's in future and cant afford anything with late version Haldex.
