Well I did plan a Saturday of work on my 90 this weekend, but instead of all that I did this.
I have been speaking to steve bain alot on LZ and he is a thoroughly decent chap. On mentioning on another thread I said I was on the hunt for a 200tdi to replace my TD.
I had sort of forgotten about it or the drive to replace the TD had waned slightly as I got the TD fired up the other day.
When on thursday or was it wednesday? he gave me, Andy's number.
Andy is a really sound guy who happened to have a disco for sale, gave him a call to arrange a meet.
Cut my waffle short; I met him today and saw the disco in question.
After a little coaxing of the battery, left ignition on and it was flat:doh:,
but it fired up straight away, no smoke and sounded and looked good.
So after talking about his other disco's and his defender:4x4 Pals -> Water Water Water
I bought it straight away.
Now I had lost a little sleep over how I was going to move the thing, either get a trailer and pull it behind my omega, borrow a mate with a bigger vehicle, pay him to tow it or just drive it.
The omega idea was a really bad one as it would look ridiculous on the A38 and guaranteed a tug from the old bill, mates were all busy, so I was left with plan C.
So I just drove it home.
This is it :http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/h-n-reg-disco-2-questions-105964-2.html
Andy was brilliant, he gave it a wash and sorted out the gash by the rear lights and put some oil and water in while I went off to get my misses to give me a lift to Andy place. He is in Ivybridge and my landy stowage is just outside Exeter.
When I got back to Andy he told me
Everything worked on it lights ect so I should be fine even the fag lighter worked!
So I jumped in and off I went
It had a nice clunk when changing gear and the gearbox wasn't the smoothest, but I didn't care, I got me tdi now nothing will get in my way.
I must say I was ****ting myself, as if I got pulled I was gonna be in trouble, I already got points and had pionts before for no insurance (I was young and stupid) so getting more was not high on my agenda.
I was a mass of nervous energy, if I got pulled I was fekked and the strong coffee I had not long drunk was coursing through my veins.
Bla Bla Bla.
The brakes were naff and I could feel either, one of the brakes binding or the hand brake, not sure which, but It smoked and stunk till I got to Buckfastleigh and sorted itself out
Temperature, didn't go above the first mark on the disco even on a slight uphill towards Rattery and brake binding
But fuel gage was showing me a red light despite putting a fair bit of fuel in
before I left. Filled up in buckfast and off I went again, misses following me just in case I hideously broke down or something.
I had got myself relaxed untill I saw a copper it was ok though he was on the other side,
"ahh he's pulled off at the junction I just passed, he spotted my lack of tax disc, I am gonna get pulled" I thought.
So I took it up to 65 and pulled of at the first Newton turning on the A38 and took the old A38 road to Drumbridges roundabout.
"phew sorted now, just look like the farm hand, taking the old disco to the shops for straw or something" I thought.
Then sat up in a lay by with full view of me and my hot ride was another copper
AAh my heart raced "Surely he saw me"
But no again I had flaunted the law in my moody disco.
By this time the disco was flying, everything had freed itself after being sat for a good year or so unused.
From now on I used the back roads to Exeter, noone bats an eye to a rough looking Discovery. Saying that It wasn't that rough to look at, I have seen far worse.
Rest of the journey was un eventful, other than it flying up haldon hill! my crappy omegea (bmw 2.5td 6cyl p38 engine) doesn't perform as well as this ageing disco.
So to finish. I am well pleased, my mission a complete success and now I have a 200tdi to put in my defender..er sorry lr90
Thank you for reading, hope I have not bored anyone:bump2:
