Another update:
So, I got a recon gearbox from Bell Engineering and found another so called “Independent Landover Specialist” To Fit a genuine land rover clutch plate, Dual mass fly wheel and clutch cylinder. I had the car transported there and left it with them. He did the work, and I went to collect it. He said he knackered the battery trying to get it started (It was flat to be fair) and it could not get the starter to engage without bump starting the car which he had to do so I could drive it away. The other problem he said was my power steering pump is worn. I said it can’t be as I only just had it replaced. He asked if it was a recon or new and I said recon. He said they don’t last long and that was that. The car didn’t suffer from the starter or power string issue before I took the car to him but what can you do. I will note that he had a works Freelander 2 on the same plate as mine and he had it up on the ramp. Now I am not suggesting any funny business here you can make your own minds up on that one. So, I drove it home and parked it up. This has left me with a problem The power steering will have to wait, although it was noisy again when I drove it home it does work. The other issue is the starter.
I got a brand-new battery from Halford the correct fit for my car fitted it and tried to start the thing. I put the key in the dash, the lights come on (They do not flicker) Press the button and nothing. It does the self-check with no error messages given, I can here electric going around the circuits, but the solenoid does not appear to be engaging. So, I will check the 40-amp fuse later and swap one of the solenoids in the fuse box to rule those out. They only thing I can think of is the solenoid on the starter itself has finally given up or it’s been damaged/Stolen. Any thoughts?

Sounds dodgy to me. All those parts suddenly stopped working while other work was being done.
Have you done any background research on this place? Maybe others have had similar issues.

They get good reviews but in my experience it was one of those places non of the other land rovers was older than 5-6 years and I could see it on their faces “What! You want us to fix that ratty old Freelander!” He kept complaining about how he only uses genuine landrover parts and my car was old and rusty so I was better off buying a new one etc

Sounds like the place to avoid to me.

At least the starter solenoid is easy and cheap to repair.

The PS pump issue could simply be due to a blocked reservoir filter. The FL2 PS reservoir is basically a service item, having a 10 year or 100k mile life before the filter clogs enough to cause issues.
I'd replace the reservoir and treat it to some fresh proper green hydraulic fluid and see what happens.

Hello everyone, I have a bit of down time for an update, So got a kit to replace the gubbins of the starter motor, Took starter off replaced gubbins which didn't seem all that worn to me, Put it all back together and nothing...Bought a new battery and nothing still... As I was mucking about with it I noticed the cables have extra nuts on them. Waggling them about I could see they were loose. I tighten them all up and hey presto it all works and has ever since April so it just goes to show you to check everything. I Also bleed the power steering and replaced the filter, not only did the whining go away but it seems to have fixed the wheel scrubbing so it just goes to show you that you should do all the simple and cheap things first

Your Se sounds like mine. Since I've owned it it's had;
New rear brakes, (shoes,disks,pads,extenders),
New clutch and DMF,
New coils and springs,
4 new tyres,
New turbo hose fitted,
Exhaust bracket replaced,
New battery,
Replacement front subframe,
Replaced track rod ends,
New fuel filter,
New MAF sensor,
Service,
Air conditioning clean and refill
Bonnet and boot struts (struggling to shut the boot now 🤣)

It's kept me pretty busy but here has helped so much before it went to the garage. The list maybe longer but it's 6 am and I'm barely awake trying to recall all this.
