Hunting cruise control

Hello!

I have a '99 Disco II, and the cruise control seems to hunt a bit. Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the cruise control sensitivity?

As far as I know, it is not adjustable. But could you tell us a bit more about the problem as it might be a symptom of something else entirely.

Ok,

Say I set the speed at 70mph. The cruise will allow the vehicle speed to drop to say 69mph, accelerate to say 71mph, and then rinse and repeat.

It isn't too abrupt or jerky, but it is enough so that it feels a bit uncomfortable and tends to annoy others traveling on the highway near you.

As a side note, and of unknown relationship... I have to hold down the "set" button for a couple seconds before the cruise engages.

mine also does that so i just got used to it. tis nothin too drastic for me, but someone may well be on later with some sort of an answer

All of that sounds perfectly normal to me and all the D2's I've driven work the same.

I think you are expecting a level of accuracy which is completely innapropriate.

If you think D2 CC is bad, try a D1 and it's CC - it will vary + or - 5mph. The D2 is LOADS better !!!!!

It's a charactar of D1 & 2 diesels as the V8's stay spot on up and down hills anywhere in fact.

Mine is pretty good, its a D2 V8 but it does hunt a little bit so i know what he means. It is quite a crude system using a diaphram and vacuum pump and unless the road is dead flat the throttle is a bit on-off on off. Not in a major way but noticeable.
I find I get better mpg not using cruise tho

Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear stated that you will get better MPG when not using cruise control, although he was driving a DB9 at the time he said that with cruise switched on it opens the throttle to compensate for the additional load on the engine ie. hills but with it switched off the driver will/maybe just go with the flow and won't press the peddle down further, hence better MPG.

I use cruise when ever I can even at 30mph sometimes
