hi every1, recently noticed that my disco2 td5 manual is making a humming noise which seems to be from the n/s not sure front or back. it seems to come in from 30-onwards and gets louder with road speed. i did notice yesterday that when i went round a left hand bend/corner it wasnt as loud. i checked wheel bearings and theres no play in any of them. ive got bf goodrich a/t's 235/70/16s fitted so could it be tyre noise?

Just because there is no play in the bearing doesn't mean it's not knackered, can you jack up the front & back right hand wheels & spin them by hand to check for noise ? I would guess it was one of them due to the fact you say it goes quiet when cornering left !

will do but the noise is coming from n/s, when i turn left it rolls right which is taking strain off bearing. i was thinking it could be tyres, ill try putting my spare on and see if it goes away

Yeah its a real PITA that you can't just do the bearings like normal cars!! A new hub will cost between £165 (OE) and £250 (Genuine) depending where you get it. You will also need a fitting kit.

There is also an argument that they are better changed in axle pairs.

I found with my D1 and Defenders you often can't feel any play in the bearing unless you undo the bolts and pull the half shaft out an inch or 2. It is surprising how much play suddenly appears.
As regards changing bearings as axle pairs, I think that argument is often proposed by people who don't have to pay for it themselves.

mine has exactly the same noise, when changing hub did you disturb abs sensors? dont want to have to visit diagnostics man if i dont have to.
