Hi all. I’ve noticed in the last few months when accelerating harder and to the end of 3rd and 4th gear I will get a slight hum/whine… what could this be? I know it’s difficult to diagnose but just working out my options and what I may need to pay out for it. I do plan on doing my clutch and DMF soon. It’s a FL1 facelift 2006 TD4. Thanks

Have you tried changing the oil in the gearbox?
What state are your tyres and are they all same make and age or if not are the newest on the rear?
Have you tested the vcu with the one wheel up test?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Someone mentioned this on a FB group just recently and I don’t know when it was last done. I did actually plan to do it this year because of that. I replaced engine oil recently and did rear dif last year so will do gearbox and IRD. Tyres were all new at once. Vcu was replaced last year.

Gearbox oil should be changed regularly but never is so it's probably original.
If you have even a slight leak it could be low.
Be careful to loosen the IRD fill bolt first and be very careful to use a quality hex socket and keep the wrench dead straight. Those bolts are made of cheese.

Getrag?

I have had people say it’s could be the bearing. But I don’t know if this oil has ever been changed. Previous owner did off road it a lot
