150ftlb or 210nm or just very tight using a 2ft breaker bar then check theres no end float or excessive drag on bearings, if you spin hub once nut is nipped up then after fully tight you shouldnt notice much difference in effort needed to spin hub

What @jamesmartin said.

I also found that as you're tightening the first nut after the spacer/thrust washer, it helps to rotate the wheel/hub and tighten slightly again, but it should feel just nipped up. When you put the lock washer on and tighten the second nut up, keep rotating the wheel which helps settle the bearings and tightens the assembly slightly. I also tighten the second nut nipped up, then make sure the tab is bent over the first nut to help it stay where it should, before finishing tightening and bending the next tab back over the second nut .. ;)

and the 2 nut system doesn't even approach those glouriously high torque figures.

It always worried me how small a nut and torque basically kept my wheels on... I know theres a locktab but even so....

Ah right .. (Obviously) I didn't know that ...

Many apologies, certainly didn't mean to mislead anyone .. :(

Unless a PO has modified to the older style, in wihch case you are perfectly correct........:D:D

Cheers
Entirely true - I keep finding non correct year parts on my Disco that the previous owner upgraded too.... handy actually unless you just ordered the wrong part!

Yes there is.....is in the manual..

But I am too drunk to copy it..............................:rolleyes:

Cheers

thanks for that, I am replacing the discs and while at it cleaning and painting several items ( OCD ) got quite a shock to find after so many years repairing vehicles and restorations that I had to but a socket! 52mm!! amazing size

fook me .................... you have hit the wacky backy! also you may wish to know I am married and will not attend either a Hotel or bend over the couch for you, you freak! I AM NOT GAY NELLY, is the Handzone I think you're looking for!

I recently had my front wheel bearings out. Mine is the old style two nut system. The nut closest to the bearing on the drivers side was finger tight. The one on the passenger side took a breaker bar to loosen!

Finger tight is good for the first one I think it's 4Nm or something silly. Other side was either done up wrong or they tried to "adjust" a badly worn bearing....

its not about the nut torque what matters is correct preload on the bearings obviously new bearings require some as bearings run in and the honing polishes off, used bearings dont but arent keen on free play, the only time time bearings need free play is when they are going to get hot, with the 2 nut securing when you tighten 2nd nut it pushes on the 1st nut giving some preload, when it comes to the single nut just the nut been very tight is all that really matters not specific torque and the correct sized selectable spacer, both types use the same bearings and hubs etc but according to manual two different settings with one having preload the other free play, i dont know any decent skilled mechanics etc that would set with noticeable free play,
