hi

am ensuring i get everything ready well in advance for the replacement of my rear upper wishbones , i see its also highly recommended to replace the top hub bearing

however i don’t have a tool to get them out and back in again , looked on ebay and don’t really wish to spend this kind of money seeing i will only be occasionally using it for other wishbones at some stage , but wish to nevertheless get something that will work

top bush , ref RHF500100

just looking further , it seems the bush is 40 mm in diameter , so wondering if some sockets and threaded bar might work ??

found a decent picture of the bush that will have to be replaced

what do u guys use please, either socket with a threaded bar, pullers or bushing removal kit

is there a trick getting these out plse, ie blow lamp, or soak the hell out of it for a few days with penetrating oil

just trying to ensure i’ve got everything lined up prior to replacing the wishbones

thks again as always

I think a socket may work for removal, but looking at the folded steel bit of the bush i can see the socket damaging the bush upon refitting, Iirc thats the fluid filled one?
Threaded bar may not be man enough.
Maybe remove the entire arm and give it to your local friendly garage?

Or have a look on youtube as theres a good vid of some clever sod whos made a good puller from a scissor type car jack.

thks, have ordered a hydraulic scissor type puller , which has 2 or 3 arms , which i can use for other jobs so not wasted, so can get them out and back in again with the same tool , he says, lol

has the larger threaded part which i thought would be better to push or pull against

ordered a pair of meyle bushes ,as i wanted some half decent ones , ones i need to get out are
on the hub, so can do all of it in situ and don’t have to take the entire hub apart , bought the wishbones complete with all new bushes already fitted

indeed ref sockets etc , i thought about some steel / stainless tubing , will measure the bearings when they turn up and think i will then be in a better position to what i’m dealing with and what else i may need

it’s just getting set up and never had to do these before , assume u coppaslip the new ones when refitting

thks again

Last land rover bushes I did were the hockey stick ones on the 90, kin hell was a royal pita!
Do loads at work, clean hole with emery cloth only lightly as only want rid of the rust and oil/grease whatever you have to hand for lube.

Puller looks good, report back when youve done them as be interesting to know.

I hate copaslip, its dirty messy ****e and gets on everything and everywhere.

I thought you was only to use water based lube on rubber bushes

these are the bushes i’ve got to change , so has a metal casing , will use coppaslip for the bolts , they’ve got a metal collar inside as well , wasn’t sure on the outside

for rubber i use red rubber grease,

cheers , will indeed report back how that puller does, hopefully will make life a bit easier with it being hydraulic , also thought it may be useful for track rod ends etc ??

have got some sheets of emery paper, apart from coppaslip i have also got ceramic grease if u think that will be better , will coppaslip the bolts

have looked on the D3 and couldn’t see what they normally use for the outer metal casing

looking at the current bolts on the wishbones they also look a PITA
