After much cleaning my P38 today I went to park it back on the drive and it wouldn't start. It is a 2001 model year

Both remotes that were working perfectly now don't work. I can start the car with the EKA code but still nothing from the remotes, I tried all the different re-sink methods I could find but nothing works.

Checked the fuses.

I checked the RF receiver in the back didn't get wet and that was ok. I checked it had 12v between the black and purple and 0v between black and ground. there is 8.6v between black and red/yellow and it dips to 8.0v - 8.2v when pressing the remote buttons.

How can i confirm if i need a new RF receiver without diagnostic equipment?

thanks in advance

Move the car, it may just be RF interferance from WiFi etc blocking the signals.

I Will take it to work tomorrow and see if it works but I always park it here to wash it and never had a problem before

have you had the disc backs off the remote ????????? if so look at the back ,,, on the main holder just above the disc there is a little pyramid raised mark at approx. 11.00 oclock then look at the disc and theres another same mark on the disc when you insert the disc the mark should be at 12.00 oclock ,,this is to ensure the inner metal connector strip is completing the connector to fob and batteries !!!!!!!! also make sure your batterie are in the right way up .. if your using the key to enter e.k.a, code and its starting then your r.f. receiver is working , also what is showing on display panel ?????????? cheers mozz
p.s. reconnect the blue wire or you will burn out your door lock micro switches then you've got problems as theres three on each lock ,,,

I didn't touch the remotes I left one in the ignition all day since moving it in the morning and they both worked perfectly since I replaced the battery in them about 6 months ago.

Maybe it's a problem with the becm then?

this morning i put the rf receiver back in as i removed it last night and tried to put the eka code in but it wouldn't work, put the key in the ignition and it wouldn't start, pressed the unlock button and it worked.

I tried the same thing many time yesterday but it didn't work, is it possible something upset it yesterday and it will be ok now or is something on its way out?

thanks for the help

Still likely to be some stray RF from somewhere combined with an early RF receiver, these are a known problem.

I check what one i have and its the interim one. Do you think its worth to replace it anyway? I know the older one can wake the becm but will the new one be less prone to this problem?

thanks

Only the MK3 version is reliable, the MK2 is better than the MK1 but is still susceptable to stray RF signals.

ok i think i will change it, just called the local dealer but they cannot order it as the factory doesn't have stock  and it would be €270 if they could

They are out of stock and supposedly a new batch is being made which will sell at ridiculous prices. €270 is cheaper than the £280 plus being asked in the UK. They are dealer only supply.

Island 4x4 had a small stock - dunno if that's still the case.

I bet that with cleaning, you've disturbed the tailgate button and that is holding the system shut. Play around with the boot button and see if it springs in to life. When I was completely locked out once, it took me a day of fiddling around and still nothing. Until my daughter did a "what does this button do" and pressed the tailgate release and it all worked. I went on to have intermittent locking and unlocking and I eventually replaced the tailgate button and all was fine.

Evening all,
I had problems like this a while back and Mozz helped me.
Check your interior lights.
When I had my problem only a couple of interior lights were working (they were all fine before I had the "engine immobilised" message). I found that the remotes would eventually work after the lights had "timed out". I disabled the interior lights and everything was hunky dory for a year until I had my next remote problem.

But have a look at the interior lights. I think I have a BeCM problem but mine is working ok at the moment.

Cheers
Steve

I will take a look at the tailgate button as something was a bit strange a while ago I opened the top half but the bottom would not work although yesterday and today it's been no problem.

All the interior lights seamed to be working last night but I will take a closer look.

No where seams to have a new rf receiver in stock but a few places said they can order them but not cheap
