How to start an engine in winter

And yes i appoligise for saying plug not injectors, But tbh it shows how good LRs are that most of you have not had problems starting your wagons.

Some of you already have blankets effectively on your engine but have not relised as it does two jobs, and one is to cut down on noise.

And no none of that was copy and paste just 10yr ish of playing with diesels,.

Main reason i have not replied is cause i cant be arsed to argue with folk who just rip the **** out of people for litterally no reason.

Dave, I'm not wishing to sound rude mate, but I've read the OP a few times and it doesn't make sense when I swap injectors for spark plugs...........
If your at the bottom of the hole and the sides are collapsing, put the spade down and stop digging;)

Injectors? So we have to heat up the injectors? Damn, my wiring must be completely wrong then! When I turn my key half way, the glow plugs light up! :doh:

If I can't figure out the wiring, what would you propose the best way of lighting my injectors up would be? I have a blow torch, would this work? :confused:

fuel rail = Fuel Injection Pump
helical = one small part of one way of controlling fuel volume delivery in IN-LINE injection pumps.

NO LandRover has ever been fitted with an IN-LINE injection pump as far as I know.

to be honest, i knew what a fuel rail is:

even before I checked i was right on wikipedia (shame)

but never heard of a helical before, but I go with the definition of a thing to hand you jerry cans :p

**** taking forum, plus direct injection without a fuel rail on most LR, and I think the earlier series 2.25 doozil didnt have a fuel rail, as were non-direct. As i understand, there were no fuel rails on LR, but maybe the new ones with common rail injection IF they have it (no idea). Common rail is the new fuel rail with high pressure, innit?

So, his point was clear to me after thinking about it, but it had no connection to LR, but that I DO have a blanket in the car. But that's for me, as the heater isn't what it is called...
 
I don't know what all this stuff is about starting a Land Rover. If the engine is set up as it should be and you have a good battery do what I do. Jump in turn the key and away it goes. Even in -18 c The engine doesn't even turnover once before it fires up. Sometimes I have left it in Lyon open Airport car park for a couple of weeks covered in snow and it still fires up first thing. The thought that its not going to start would never cross my mind.
Its a 200tdi with 125,000 miles on the clock.
 
To be honest I work on the principle that it's only doing it's job. Get in, radio on full blast (on full it's 140 amps but obviously its only maybe 10 or 20 when I'm on my own) and turn the key. Starts instantly, all day, every day.

It's a machine created to be driven by people who view it as a tool and not a car, therefore it must be rugged and work every time.

If it breaks, I'll fix it. I can't be wasting my time sitting in the car for 5 minutes every time I go out.

If the speakers take 120 amps they'll hear it clearly in Moscow.

Try Watts perhaps?

Winter is on its way - perhaps the original poster would care to remind us what fuel rail does and how a helical works, so we can get our Landies started up.

Remember guys, check the spark plugs of your diesel Landies.
