I have just replaced my key fob buttons for my 1999 RR. It couldn't be easier.

All you have to dois prise out the buttons at the edge with a sharp knife or small screwdriver. You will do no damage to the buttons as they are much lower than the cover you are replacing.

Then, just push the new button cover in and you're done! I'd recommend getting them from a dealer or specialist supplier as they are cheap.

Great write up, always wondered how I would do this project. What's the part number and where is the cheapest place to buy them?
Can you post some pictures?

Many manufacturers recommend that the battery should be replaced within a couple of minutes , otherwise they can lose their preset codes. I used to work in Halfords and we werent allowed to change them for customers. Some must be changed by main dealers for the same reason but they charge quite a lot to do it.

To post pictures, click on GO ADVANCED and then BROWSE, it should give your photograph files, select the photos then UPLOAD then EXIT then submit reply.

That's fine, but we're talking about the buttons not the batteries I thought. The buttons are a piece of cake. Plus I've changed my batteries and had no issues. I don't see what could be hard about whipping in and out a couple of batteries anyway...

Because I posted about BUTTONS and for some reason Crashbox started to talk about BATTERIES - and YOU'RE confused (?)

Just a quick test on a non relevant photo - as we are getting into no relevant stuff in this post I thought of the saying "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em"!
