how to fix Traction control - AMBER symbol and Hill descent control (HDC) ‘failure’ - AMBER symbol freelander dashboard

it all happened when i pulled handbrake and the release and then noticed the tc and hill descent control symbol with ! in amber still on both in amber, i checked under brake pedal there a sensor, checked that, wasn't unplugged, opened up glove box in middle after handbrake, all sensors with handbrake connected,,

only thing i thing i noticed is brake light dont come on when brake pedal pushed ???
checked fuses under steering column all good,my freelander is td4 2006
help

What causes the TC SYMBOL light AND HILL DESCENT CONTROL AMBER light to come on and brake lights not work when brake pedal is pressed ??

Brake light switch is likely culprit.

would switch cause the brake light not to work when pressing the pedal as well as tc and hdc amber symbol lights not to turn off

i read that thread , seems all kinds of different ways can affect ,, i ordered a switch same as original in case it doesnt fix,, im puzzled why the brake light dont work when pedal pressed,, i see switch is one reason why maybe, is there another reason that can cause it ,so i can get it

Brake light switch This is a common fault that causes the 3 amigos. Even more so if the brake lights don't work ether. Nothing to be puzzled over at all. Just change the swtich

i ordered from london supplier so should have by end of week or monday , let you know how i get on

Will be brake light switch. Replaced mine other week because of orange hdc and intermittent brake lights

Got switch and got the brake light switch recommended 3 amigos thread here.it worked and sorted it all working and 2 amber warning lights gone . Thanks guys for your help and advise

hi, i have a similar problem on 1.8 petrol freelander, all three lights on, but brake lights are working fine,
any ideas what it may be? thanks

Could still be the brake light switch.
Otherwise most likely an ABS sensor.
There are plenty of posts on here about it (click here)

When checking abs sensors. Dont you disconnect the sensor from the wiring and check ohm reading (2.8-3.2) i think is the proper resistance. Or how do you check which is out without using a scanner.

It depends on what year the Freelander is. A 2000 onwards uses a multi contact brake light switch. So it's possible for the switch to fail but the brake lights still work.

Unplug the sensor and measure its resistance. It should not around 1K ohm or so.

Unplug from which side? The wheel side or connection side?

for the price of a brake light switch put a new one on.

My brake lights still worked, The switch acts as 2 switches in 1

eventually contacts melt and the brake lights wont work

i changedbrake switchstill left with hdc amber, but abs tc both went out after new reluctor ring on one hub and 4 new abs sensors, fitted new brake level sensor and the switch under centre console, handbrakes switch works fine and other square switch under consul centre, i was thinking deff reversing switch but the reverse lights work fine
