I am relatively new to the defender world and I am not technically or mechanically minded at all. Please bear this in mind! I have just ordered and received new wheels an tyres for my 90 and they do not fit on to the hub. At the moment I have 15' standard modular steels with 30x9.5 (?) tyres. I have bought 16'x7' challenger steel wheels with larger tyres. I thought it would simply be a case of off with the old, on with the new howver this isnt the case. The hole in the middle of my current wheels is 5' with the hole in the middle of the challengers 4 3/4. Where have I gone wrong and is there any way to fix this with adaptors / spacers etc. I dont understand wheel offset etc so please be kind! I really dont want to have to send these back at great expense ...............

Hi mate. The stud pattern is the same, its just the central hole that is too narrow. The package I bought is http://www.4x4tyres.co.uk/defender/16inch-7inch-challenger-steel-wheel-black-p-1571.html#compatibletyres[/IMG]

I guess I am missing something obvious?

I've just had a few minutes on google and all the other sites list that wheel for a 90 defender. but some list it for a discovery 2 and that will be where the difference is. Someone else will be along soon who will know what yours should fit but it looks like your in the ****. Has your 90 had disco axles fitted? What reg is yours?

I dont understand offset etc. Surely if they are advertised in that section of a website, un
der defender wheels, they should fit?

We dont know if that is the problem yet.
Jamesmartin are you confirming that the wheels he has are disco 2?

ive no idea but its a common issue as is trying to fit alloy wheels from a 300 to a 200 or earlier,300 having narrower hubs ie dont poke out as far as 200s

Thanks very much for all of your advice and help. Much gunk removing later, the wheels actually fit on. There was a load of muck and paint and added to the snug fit anyway, this was what was causing it. Cheers again.
Sorry for the stupidity.........
