check for a leaking injector O ring on a TD5 engine.

I took the top cover off me engine to see if I could spot which injector O ring is leaking fuel into my engine oil. Wishful thinking but you never know.
So far so good until I started the engine.
A TD5 does a good impression of an oil rig blowout - even at idle.
The timing chain chucks the oil everywhere and gallons of it.
Now I've got a massive clear up job as well as a leaking injector and I still dont know which one it is.
In hindsight I did not need to start the engine as the fuel pump pressure is 60 psi and stays the same whether the engine is running or not.
Learn from a prize tw@t and dont do the same unless you like swimming in oil.
Cheers

Ive done the same. I turned on my 200tdi just after putting on the new timing belt, to see if it would run ok. It did, but i forgot that theres an oil cooling system on the radiator, which i had detached, and managed to pump the majority of the 6 liter engine capacity onto the driveway.

Makes me feel a bit better that I'm not the only one whos done something stupid. I used to do this all the time on my old Escort petrol engine when adjusting the tappets.
I took the motor to my local garage and jet washed the engine bay which got most of the oil off. My engine is cleaner than it ever was so it may have been a blesiing in disguise.
Had to pay for another wash to clean the wash bay afterwards though.
