I have stumbled accross a 1998/R 90 County with 74K genuine miles which has been sitting in a yard unmoved for nearly two YEARS. It was bought off e-bay 2 years ago but the paperwork was not finalised during the sale and now the seller has died so it is currently subject to probate. During this time loads of bit have been robbed but overall the condition is excellent. It even runs quite sweetly although it took a bit to initially get it started.

The bits missing are:

Alloy wheels
All rear seats
wiper motor
Battery
and a few odds and sods interior switches n other small stuff.

So how much should I offer once probate has been sorted?

I'm going to be talking money to the owners of this Landy today, I think 1K is a **** take, any more realistic guide figures?

I don't want to insult the guy but I don't want to offer too much.

My Dad has thoroughly checked it over and its has the potential to be excellent condition with the missing bits replaced, it needs no welding/bodywork and the injun is sound it just parts that are missing replaced. Infact it were my Dad that canibalised it for other vehicles.

I want to buy the vehicle of them before they get my Dad to rebuild it (hes their mechanic and their a small indepentant LR dealer).

I've seen good condition 98/R Counties between 6K - 8K so I was think about 3K

3k for something that hasnt moved in 2 years?Madness. They dont need or want it other wise it would be in use.1 k is reasonable as it is more than theyd get scrap for it.The 6-8k cars youve seen are tried and tested everyday use vehicles. Also they can only say no.If you start low you can work your way up, come in high straight away they will play you.

They are a small LR dealer, the vehicle was bought in to sell on but while they were buying it the owner died and the vehicle has been tied up in probate hence why they couldn't sell it earlier. Its definately not scrap, it could be mint without much money.
But I will try low ;)

a lot of damage can happen in two years un touched. will probably need new prop ujs, lots of seals, bushes, a complete service and fluid change. I would be tempted to give the engine a spruce up with a new water pump, timing belt and possibly head gasket as they dont like being stood. all this especially if its been kept outside.
I would expect to spent up to £1000 to get it all up together again.
The repair bills on things that have stood can quite often cost in the long run as much a high mileage motor.

I once garaged a V12 Jaguar for two years. Under cover, warm, and dry.
Unfortunately I did not turn the engine over and when I eventually fired the motor it leaked oil and water from pretty much every gasket and cooling hose.
The brakes were rusted solid and the seals in the brake calipers had gone hard so as soon as I put pressure on the pedal I added brake fluid to the ever growing puddle.
The tyres were history and the auto box would not change into any gear.
In short it was too expensive to fix so I sold it to my local mechanic at virtually half its working value and bought my first SWB IIa.
By all means buy it as a project but dont pay any more than you have to.
