Hi all im thinking about wireing up a CD player in my V8 90 but nut sure were im going to put speakers and the head unit yet, so im looking for idea's so if youthink you have a nice set up then please post a pic of your landys ICE.

"O" yes can you put speakers into the doors cards?

well yes bar the wind blowing through the doors gaps and road sound. pluss it would be nice to listen to some music as i sit on the side of the road waiting for the RAC man to come lol

snigger, got pos in mine-in fact it's that **** nobody would steal it

In Land rovers of old, Ice was best served with the Gin and tonic...

In car entertainment didn't include any music...

The old 101 was so noisy, we installed a full set of Clansman headsets.
We could use the intercom to talk to one another, and pipe music in.
And they kept your ears warm...

I had a kenwood head unit wiv 10 disc changer, 1000w kenwood amp and twin 12" subs mounted in a bass box in my old V8.

The rear speakers were pioneer pod mounted ones and I fitted em above the rear quarterlights.;)

You will regret cutting holes in the defender door cards. They go for stoopid money on ebay.:eek::eek:

My ICE only works in the winter and not in the summer it's too warm :D
That reminds I must fix the heater soon

Been sussing out how to fix this big box of components into my 90. I've collected speakers, amps, and subs from installs in previous cars - I always try to keep things discrete so that there's no "eye candy" on display.
I'm going for a media-player head unit this time - no CD player in the car at all. Instead it'll run off a hard disk packed full of MP3s. I've got speaker pods under the dash already, so there'll be new speakers in there - these have their own crossovers with the corresponding tweeters up on top of the dash right in the corners.
There'll be a pair of 6x9's in MDF enclosures either side of the rear door, in front of the light clusters. The sub will be in another MDF enclosure behind the cubby box.
Given that I've already got most of this kit, it's not gonna cost me a load of cash - just a bit of time to fit it so it looks decent.

Ian.

As above. I've got a loft full of boy racer stereo stuff from 10 years or so ago.
If I ever get the Landy finished it'll benefit from an Alpine / Soundstream combo.
Going in a soft top so need to think about placement & security.

Under dash seems pretty poor placement for speakers. I'm thinking B pillar position behind seats / cubby box / fusebox area / dash front.

Agree that under the dash isn't ideal - but there are speaker pods already there in my car, and by mounting the tweeters on top of the dash it lifts the soundstage up to head height. Ears aren't very good at determining where lower frequencies originate (which is why we typically only need mono subs), so as long as the crossover and balance between the mid and the tweeter is adjusted, the effect should be tolerable. :)

I'm quite happy to compromise on speaker location to keep things relatively discrete - let's be honest, whatever I install is going to have to compete with the noise from a dirty great diesel engine! :D

i had two 6x9s in the ply lying of the HT behind the sets and a pair of 4" speakers at the back, so i could still hear the radio when working out of the back. They dropped out after being abused off road.

Ive replaced the standard speakers under the dash for slightly bigger ones, put in a sub in the back (see pic 1, which is old and the ****ty red speakers have been replaced with gud ones :D ) along with two speakers, but now im gonna change itto something like this (see pic 2) except im putting the sub into what would be the top shelf :) ill throw a pic of my design up here when i get the chance, hope this helps.

In my last 110 I had a Sony CD/MP3 head unit, some 6" speakers under the dash, and some very powerful 6x9s in MDF boxes in the rear. Worked pretty nicely, too. In my current one, the previous owner has installed a 'Multi-speaker surround system', which I've yet to try out...

something like this, but ill box off the back of the side speakers, (holes=speakers)

I did this recently and I kinda like it. Sounds quite meaty and offers room for improvements along the way. Oh and before anyone starts it only reduced the tub length by 11" internally but left me plenty of room for adding storage into it.

The speakers stuck on the sides by the seat belt mounts ain't there now either.
