Hi guys now I have your attention how hard is it to rebuild a series 3 gearbox? I've seen the 3rd gear!!! advertised on ebay but is it an amateur job or one for the professionals?

I will be attempting mine fairly soon when the weather gets warmer, I look forward to the answers on this question.

End of the day its all nuts and bolts, (and cogs) if someone built it why cant you re-build it.
Good manual, do the research and check the threads.
If you get stuck the answers will be on the forum :)
What can possibly go wrong.......
Nah will be fine just research good luck :)

Where are you Divie? Maybe we could cock up/mend our gearboxes together..... no that came out wrong learn from each others cock ups ....no thats no better screw both gearboxes up and get a discount from the local gearbox mender for bulk!! yeh that'd work!!

if you have a manual its not rocket science but it does involve setting 2nd and 3rd endfloat by hoping your new bushes or bush are long enough to have endfloat in the first place and so to be able to remove a little by little till correct, then using selective washers to set snap ring

Removals01, I am in Midlands so no chance of a get together. I am not usually fazed by taking things to bits and have a lathe and milling machine for the unforseen. Vintage bikes are my other passion so I am OK with most jobs. I made a batch of mainshaft nut tools if you require one. All I ask is £20 deposit so that they are returned for the next person to use, postage is around £5.60

no ,thats how 2nd and 3rd are set ,its a clat but not difficult ,theres much more setting to do with a series box

See :D threads are great, you cant get these kind of details direct from a manual.
Ues the manual as a guide and get stuck in, there will always be help here from those in the know.
Lastly TAKE PICS! loads of them cover all the stages of the strip down, and post them up here then it will assist others and get you answers faster.

Have fun! :D
