Hello All, now how do I replace the engine oil cooler. Do I have to disconnect the air con rad and do I lose all the gas from this. Also does the front bumper have to come off. I do not know for sure if it is the engine oil cooler but looks like it. There is oil all over the viscous fan and front of engine and I have cleaned the bottom of the vehicle 3 times and the oil keeps coming, does not look like the hoses as there is only a small drip from them. Thanks

No need to remove the aircon or bumper, slam plate & grill plus the fans.
Could it be oil from the aircon, the condensors are a regular failure item.

It looks like engine oil as it is black and smells like it. I also want to take of the intercooler to give it a good clean. Whoever had this befor me did nothing to it, so bit by bit I will get it done. Just out of interest where is the condensor, is it the rad thing where the fans are bolted to.

Yup, that's it. Whilst you will lose your gas I reckon that it's worth pulling it out, if you can disconnect the pipework, to be able to have a good look at it and the main rad. A good external wash won't do any harm (step away from the pressure washer!) to clear the vanes and be able to have a good look. They're both a bit suspect after a few years.

Thanks for that, it looks like I will have to take it all out as there is oil all over the place along with dirt mixed with the oil etc and give it a good wash (don't have a pressure washer) so won't do any damage.

Cap the pipe ends so sh*te cannot get into the system. As posted you don't have to disturb the A/C, if you do, go to the garage that is going to recharge your system and get them to de-gas it (eco warrior or what):D

So thats a No No to me just taking off the pipes.

Just take the pipes off FFS, the gas leaks to the atmosphere when the condensor goes so a bit more won't hurt.
Slacken the pipes and let the gas bleed out slowly and don't inhale:rolleyes:

Will do, if the chinese and americans etc don't give a hoot I will do the same. As you said a bit more won't hurt.

My guy that does my A/C does not charge full price if he has recovered the gas ie. it does not cost him so much to recharge your system. That is one point to having it de-gassed, the other is if we are all as irresponsible as some (FFS) then we will only have ourselves to blame for the contamination of our planet. All those "bit more's" add up you know:rolleyes::eek:

I don't think I have any in there as it is because it does not get cold and I have a book up in the display. Another thing what is ffs:confused:

In that case manufacturers should be compelled to make the system leak proof, many systems need a refill every 4 years where do you thing the gas goes FFS?

The gas destroys Ozone i think or the old stuff used to. But you would have to empty a lot of aircon systems to destroy as much as each and every space probe or satellite launch does. So in the great plan of things it is neither here nor there to be honest.:);)

I thought they all run on the new gas which is not harmful and as Datatek says they have to be recharged and what do they do with the old gas, can it be recycled, if so it should be half the price to recharge as they are taking your old gas in exchange:D

Used to be R12 now it's R134a. Official aircon places have to collect the gas, it's illegal not to apparently. What they do with it haven't a clue. Maybe it's recycled.

Strangely enough the ozone hole is getting bigger again in the antarctic and they're all wondering how come. How many cars had air-con 10 years ago? How many do now? Any connection?!
