How Do I Determine the Year of Manufacture?

Update on Year of Manufacture:
I applied (and paid for) a Certified Copy of a Factory Record from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust through the link as suggested by 300bhp/ton, https://www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk/archive/heritage-certificates
Turns out that the Series III was built in 1980, a year before it was first registered.
I contacted DVLA and sent of all relevant paperwork (V5C, V10, V112, Cert from BMIHT and cover letter) asking that they amend records and note that the vehicle should be registered as an Historic Vehicle and therefore now be Tax and MoT exempt.
The guy on the phone from DVLA was very helpful and hopefully I should have amended paperwork back with me in 6-8 weeks

Result! Glad you got it sorted

Well, true to their word, DVLA came back, in less time than they said eg 5 weeks as opposed to the 6-8 weeks they initially indicated, and the Series III is now registered as an Historic Vehicle.
Even better --- just yesterday a Refund Cheque from DVLA arrived!!
All in all ----- a very happy bunny!!!
