i have now got myself a nice expedition roofrack for my disco, like the safty devices one, but what i want to do it mount my hilift jack up there and 2 waffle boards when i get them, but i want them to be secure so no basstid can rob them, has oneone got some ideas or can share some light on my dilemma, i have seached an it just comes up with mounting to spare wheel but i want most things to be on my roof rack, thanks

I reckon if you give it to me then they won't nick anything off you lol..I really want one of those racks.

Seriously though, I have a mount that has two large wing nuts that screw onto a shaft that has a hole in it for a padlock. Is that good enough?

Think I got it off fleabay

I would advise you to seriously think about the weight of the roofrack, plus the hi-lift and waffle boards. That is a LOT of weight to have so high up and will compromise the safety of the vehicle by raising it's already high C of G. From memory the max roof weight in total is only 75kgs - a pair of waffle boards on their own will weigh that and more.

Carefully weigh the total amount of kit you want to put on the roof or you will have a Discovery that is unstable on corners or when off-road.

VERY sound advice and why you see many expedition vehicles with waffle boards mounted on the sides. Leave the roof rack for lighter, bulkier items, keep the heavy stuff as low as possible.

Just thinking, if you want some good tried and tested ideas have a look at some military Defenders. The only thing that they have up high is usually a chuffin great gun, and there's a good reason for that! The rest of their kit is mounted below, and they don't hang about.
