if you have play its usually because pinion bearings have worn unless nut just need nipping up ,youd need to replace bearings or change shims to get pinion set right first ,then set diff carrier bearings to adjust backlash carrier bearings are set by starting with both loose and adjusting crown wheel side one till all backlash has just gone ,then adjusting other till backlash is put back 6 thou ish if measured
Best advice going, it's a pro job really, good chance of ****ing things up, remove it and send to the local gearbox/old skool engineering place, they will know what to do and it it's removed it won't cost too much, you may as well do all bearing whilst it's apart though!
