I had a Hot start Fix with the timer fitted about 8 months ago which cured the hot start problem. However I have a cold start issue that has developed recently. The car starts first time but after the hot start Fix timer period of about 30 seconds ends the engine begins to miss and when the automatic first gear or reverse is selected the engine stalls and the whole procedure has to be repeated..more than twice!. Once the engine can be persuaded to run and is warmed through the car starts and runs OK. The idle speed drops to about 8500 RPM holding in gear.

Has anyone else had this problem if so what was the likely cause and cure for the issue.

I fitted one of them kits my filter casing was cracked fuel was running back when hot. Or once the hot start had timed out. New fuel pipes and filter casing removed the hot start and no problem hot or cold. Missing could be air in fuel or a glowplug nae working

Disconnect the hot start and see what you get. If your car is idling at 8500 RPM you certainly do have a problem, it should be 750 RPM. Look for air in clear pipe if no air diagnostics would possibly tell you more.

He says the idle speed drops to 8500 must have a formula 1 engine in it

Yeah OK one '0' too many should have typed 850 RPM! .. always has been around the 900 mark even before fitting the hot start. .. Wonder if the engine has been chipped?

Suggestion that a heater plug might be down is a puzzle as the engine fires up first turn of the key ticks over at 900 to 1000 RPM. When the 30 second timer ends the engine continues to run at the 850 RPM it only stalls when the gear is engaged. Could this still be a heater plug off? I think its more likely to be a fuel problem. I know these things could be checked but before diving in would like some thoughts on where to start!

Idle RPM hot should be 750 +- 50. If it is at 900 RPM hot it is to high. This can only be changed with diagnostics. Main reason for doing this would be to cover up a stalling problem associated with the fuel quantity servo.
